Sunrise for Mary Elizabeth Lee Young was January 23, 1920 in Jennersville, PA to Lewis F. Lee, Elsie B. Davis Lee and stepmother, Irene Crutchfield Lee. At the age of 14, singing on the choir at Enon Baptist Church in West Grove, PA. She laid eyes on the love of her life, Milton I. Young, Sr. They were married August 28, 1939 and from this union came 8 children: Irene Y Awatona, Sondra L. Young, Barbara Y. Christy, Phyllis A. Young, Priscilla A. Young, Milton I Young, Jr., Lewis E. Young and Arlean Y. Abrams. Together they shared 61 years prior to his passing. Along with their children they raised a grandson Michael A. Young. Mary and Milton shared 35 years of marriage before he passed away in 1999.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Passtown and loved singing with the Gospel Chorus for over 35 years. Her favorite and most request song was “He Knows How Much We Can Bear.” She enjoyed playing bingo, long rides in the country and  having her family for “home cooked” meals. Her main specialty was home made apple dumplings which all the kids fought over. Most of all her husband was her “King.”

Ms. Mary loved the Golden Tones. She faithful attended their concerts for over 15 years.  They loving named her the “Mother” of the group.   Everyone who knew Ms. Mary knew she had her own vocabulary/language (I’m not sure what word to use). She would say she loved looking “elgit”, never “gasin” or “gernal-yack!” She would tell you in a heatbeat “You done saw!”

Ms. Mary was a loving, giving, caring, mother grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She definitely believed in the power of prayer.  She had a smile for everyone add always had a encouraging words. She would always see the good in everyone.

Ms. Mary passed away peacefully January 20, 2016. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis A. Young; grandsons, Lorenzo Smith and Donald A. Young; daughter-in-law, Brenda Morris Young, sisters, Annabelle Lee Gaines, Ora Lee Draper and Eva Lee Maxwell.

Her legacy continues through 6 generations of family members including: 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren, and 3 great great great grandchildren. In addition to her legacy she will be greatly missed by in-laws, Cornelia Young Johnson, Evelma Young Reynolds, Edward Young, Sr. John Young, Sr.; countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a host of “adopted” children and grandchildren.

She also leaves close friends, Mrs. Priscilla Johnson, Mrs. Minetter Winfield and her devoted caregiver, Judy Brown.

Ms. Mary will be greatly missed. Her memory will be cherished in our hearts.
