Marjorie Gay Butler was born on March 31, 1932 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.  She was the daughter of the late Eshmon and Marjorie P. Harville Gay.  Margie was the wife of the late Walter H. Butler,Sr., and the mother of two sons, Walter H. Butler, Jr. “Jiggs”, and Eshmon H. Butler, Sr. “Mush”.

Margie completed her formal education in the Coatesville Area School District and graduated from the Magderline High School in Philadelphia, Pa.  She was a long time employee of the Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville, Pa. and retired from Bentley and Harris in Lionville, Pa.

She was a longtime member of the Historic Hutchinson UAME Church in Coatesville where she faithfully served as a member of the Waitress Club, Harvest Club and the Gospel Choir.

Margie was a dedicated volunteer for the Coatesville Soup Kitchen where she spent many hours preparing and serving food to those in need within the Coatesville Community, often preparing food from home and donating it to the Soup Kitchen.

She loved sewing and reading the Bible. Margie had an impeccable style for dress and eye for fashion. She served as one of the models for the Annual African Fashion Show at Hutchinson.  She made stiletto heels her fashion statement long before they were fashionable. Her culinary skills were by far the best.  Her smile would light up the room.  Her laugh was infectious and her love for people was precious.

Margie love to serve the Lord. She could always be found saying “To God Be the Glory. Her favorite scripture was 1 John 3:18; “my little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth”.  She found comfort in the words of her favorite hymn “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”

On Monday July 4, 2016, Margie was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves two sons, Walter H. Butler, Jr. and Eshmon H. Butler, Sr. both of Coatesville; one sister Constance Hardy (Howard “Shakey” Bradford) of Coatesville; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
