Virginia passed from this life on the morning of January 26, 2021 after a gradual decline in health. Virginia was born on October 3, 1938 to Odell Carl Hughes and Frances Sarah Hughes in Valley Township Chester County, PA. She spent most of her life living and working in the Coatesville/Oxford, PA area.
She retired from a career in nursing from Chester County 1997.
She was an active member of Greater Deliverance Church and loved to read and study the Bible. In 2003, after raising her three sons; Troy, Jeffery and Paul; her daughter, Dawn and her great nephew, Gemil, she moved to Trenton, SC to be closer to her brother, Edward Henderson, who lived in Grovetown, GA and also, to become actively involved in her son, Paul’s growing family. To her joy, not long after, her daughter, Dawn and her family joined her in Trenton, SC. Virginia was a dedicated grandma to 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren that bought extreme joy and happiness to her life. Virginia is predeceased by her husband, Floyd Martin, Sr. and her grandson, Jackie.
She is survived by seven children (and spouses): Floyd (Loretta), Dorothy (Byron), Troy (Jean), Jeffery (Evelyn), Dawn, Paul (Andrea) and Gemil; twenty-two grandchildren: Marquise, Michael, Antonio II, Dawn, Paul, Troy Jr., Raymond, Morell, Ashley, Jeff, Lacey, Paul II, John, David, Joshua, Shayla, Yvette, Teisa, Jonathan, Byron, and Patrick.
A walk-thru public viewing will be held from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM, on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 819 Coates Street, Coatesville, PA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral service will be held strictly private with limited seating for the immediate family only.
Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, PA.
