Velda Louise Baynard, 68, of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
She was born and raised in Coatesville and was the daughter of the late Clarence Green and Beatrice Norman. Velda was educated in the Coatesville Area School District and was a 1972 graduate of Coatesville Area Senior High School. Velda was a cheerleader and enjoyed doing gymnastics at the YWCA.
She was the wife of Robert James Baynard, Sr. whom she was introduced to by her sister, Josephine "Terry". Robert knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was the one for him. They affectionately shared 43 years of marriage together and renewed their vows in November of 2014. You never saw one without the other.
Velda and her husband attended the Episcopal Church of the Trinity in downtown Coatesville. She was baptized at Landmark Baptist Church in Exton, PA and was a woman of strong faith.
Velda was a jack of all trades, holding many jobs and exhibiting many talents over the years before finding her true passion, which was working with children. From working as a mail carrier at the Coatesville Post Office to an assembly line worker at Pepperidge Farm, Velda did it all! She was a very talented cosmetologist, seamstress, baker and dedicated her life to helping others through the use of these talents. Velda worked for the Coatesville Area School District before finally finding her employment home at Collegium Charter School where she was employed for 22 yrs.
As if raising a family of her own wasn’t enough, Velda helped raise and take care of others through her involvement in the foster care program, the Fresh Air Fund’s Summer Program, and babysitting.
Velda loved spending time and traveling with family and friends. She was the life of every party and a mother to the many lives she touched. You could find her sipping tea and watching “Murder She Wrote”, “Monk”, any of the “Halloween” movies featuring Michael Myers or her favorite movie “Tombstone”. She looked forward to “Friday the 13th" and “Twilight Zone” marathons. Velda was a member of the “Red Hatters” and faithfully attended meetings.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Rhonda Baynard.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by: one son, Robert “BJ” Baynard, Jr. (Sarina) of Coatesville; four daughters, Danyell Jackson of Perrysburg, OH, Dana Parker (Lincoln) of Downingtown, Robyn London (Darren) of Honey Brook, and Latasia Baynard of Coatesville; one sister Josephine “Terry” Nixon of Coatesville, PA; two brothers, Clarence “Sparky” Green of Pottstown; James “Jimmy” Green of Coatesville: two aunts Doris Spann of Michigan and Betty Norman of Coatesville; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, her pet Yorkie “Ray-Ray” A.K.A “Mink Mink”, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Even though she has left our midst, we will cherish the many fond memories we have of her life. She would want us to celebrate her life and not dwell in her death. We will miss you and we love you, and we can hear you saying, “I LOVE YOU MORE?!”
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Performing Arts Center at Collegium Charter School, 515 James Hance Ct, Exton, PA 19341, with a viewing beginning at 8:00 AM, until the start of the service. A Livestream link for the service will be provided here and active on the day and time of the service.
Burial will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park, 124 Phoenixville Pike, Frazer, PA, 19355.
Family and friends may share condolences at the guestbook link on this memorial page. All are welcome to light a candle or share a picture in her remembrance.
