Usala Newsuan Obituary

Usala Newsuan was born in Cooper Hospital in Camden New Jersey Her mother’s name was Mabel and her father’s name was Clarence. She is one of 23 brothers and sisters. She was a twin, and there were 4 sets of twins in the family. Her twin sister's name was Valrica.

While residing in New Jersey, Usala worked at Cooper Hospital, as a Teachers Aide at Blankenburg Elementary School, and retired as an Aide at Whittier Elementary School.  She also worked at the Skating Ring at 43rd & Lancaster Avenue and as a Nurses Aide at  Haverford Nursing Home.

One of her interest was playing Bingo, and she loved the Philly Sports Teams; especially the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles.

Usala relocated to Coatesville, PA in the early 1990s and embarked on a new life as a Coatesvillian. Usala, joined New Life In Christ Fellowship in the early 1990s where her two sons Ronnie (wife, Barbara) and Alphonso (wife, Donna) Newsuan attended. She was known for her infectious smile and her sense of humor. She had an immense love for the Lord and thought that Pastor Dan and Sister Baleria were two of the best things since sliced bread.

Mother Newsuan as the church called her, sat in the same row with the same people Sunday after Sunday, and year after year. Mother Taylor was the Matriarch of that row, and it was filled with wisdom, smiles and gray hair. Almost everyone paid homage to that row when they came to church because they were some of the first to arrive and the last to leave.

Usala would frequently stop at Foot Stop, her son’s footwear store and sit, chat and laugh. She used to love to frequent the Steel City’s Farmers Market. That market gave her a good reason to get in a good walk, and meet all of her friends. She had her own gang and they would sit in that Market all day. Laughing, greeting people, and eating the good food that was sold in the market. There was an unmistakable joy emanating from her when she was in that atmosphere. There’s no doubt she was a lover of life and people.

At age 89, Usala passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at Saint Martha Manor in Downingtown, PA.

She leaves one son Alphonso Newsuan (Donna); one daughter, Lucille Newsuan; and one brother Collin Shield. As a woman with 22 other brothers and sisters, the number of nephews and nieces are too numerous to mention.  She will be missed by many.
