Theodore Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Theodore E. Johnson, Sr. was born July 13, 1926 to the late Thelma Johnson and the late Walter Jones. He was called home to glory on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Theodore was educated in the Coatesville Area School District.

He was an avid sports fan. Theodore played baseball, and took great pride in being a left-handed catcher. He was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also had a great love for fishing, which he enjoyed alongside his good friend, Irvine Lane and his stepfather, Verley Van Bruen.

For many years, Theodore worked for Gindy Manufacturing Company in Eagle, PA.

On July 5, 1969, he married Phyllis M. Greene, a union to which their only child, the late Theodore E. Johnson Jr., also known as Buddy, was born, whom recently passed away March 27, 2020.  Upon this marriage, Theodore moved to East Orange, NJ where he worked for C.G. Winans &Co. in Newark, NJ as a Shop Steward for the Teamsters Union. He then moved on to the East Orange School District in the security and maintenance departments.

Theodore later joined Calvary Baptist Church and would later serve on the men’s club and as a Sexton.  He eventually moved back to Pennsylvania and joined the First Baptist Church of Passtown in the Hayti section of Coatesville, PA. While there, he lived on George Street for many years and then later was relocated to Newport Meadows in Christiana, PA due to health reasons.

Theodore is survived by his wife Phyllis; son, James Guy; daughters, Terri Ann Williams and Marie Steward; uncle, Walter Johnson; aunts, Priscilla Johnson and Bertha Johnson; sister-in-law, Robin Webb; and brother-in-law, Nelson Greene Jr. and his wife Carolyn. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and close friends.
