Stephen L. Kennedy

Stephen L. Kennedy, 43, of Coatesville, PA departed his earthly life Tuesday, February 5, 2019, peacefully at home.

Born in Coatesville, PA, he was the son of Sheri A. Kennedy, of West Chester and Clarence Green of Coatesville.

He was the husband of Zumehka S. (Wesley) Kennedy. In April of 2019, Stephen and Zumehka would have celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary.

In 1994, Stephen graduated from Henderson Senior High School. During his high school years, he was employed by Pizza Hut as a manager. Shortly after he was employed by A. Duie Pyle where he spent 19 years, beginning on the dock working his way up to a pricing administrative assistant.

In his younger years he was affectionately known as “Stevie”, but as the young boy grew into a grown man, he would kindly and respectfully inform you that his name is STEPHEN.

In his leisure time, Stephen enjoyed art, listening to R&B music, especially Mary J Blige.

In the kitchen, Stephen was the “Master” of frying chicken, nobody could fry like him. He also enjoyed barbecuing.

If you knew Stephen, you knew his favorite movie was “The Color Purple”.

He was a straight forward person with a beautiful smile. When it came to dressing, Stephen was very casual however, he always had to have his Nike Air Max’s, Timberland boots, and Curve cologne.

He had nicknames for everyone.

In addition to his parents and his lovely wife, he will be sadly missed and always loved and remembered by his sons, Aaron Wesley and Ashon Wesley of Coatesville; his brothers: Clarence “Pint” Kennedy of Coatesville, Howard Newton of West Chester, Christopher Green of Downingtown, PA; sisters: Nashika Newton and Twana Newton both of West Chester, PA, Felicita Green of Pottstown, Christine Purnell of Coatesville, PA his maternal grandfather Joel C. Kennedy of Coatesville PA and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Stephen was predeceased by his stepfather, Howard “Skook” Earl Newton, his maternal grandmother Shirley A. Kennedy and his uncle Stephen A. Kennedy.

A Memorial Service will be held 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Bethel AME Church, 334 E. Miner St., West Chester, PA 19382.  There will be a Visitation beginning at 4:00 PM.  Flowers can be sent to the church on the day of the service.
