Life began for Ruth E. Evans Henry in Lancaster, PA on January 19, 1945. She was the daughter and 5th child of the late Henry and Bertha Evans.
On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, while surrounded by her family, God dispatched his angel of mercy to Ruth's bedside transitioning her from Earth to glory at the age of 77 years.
Ruth, affectionately known as "Ruthie," was educated in the Lancaster school system. Upon moving to Coatesville, Ruthie gained employment at Lasco Manufacturers in West Chester, PA and for many years she served as the front desk receptionist at Dr. Lee's medical office located on Merchant Street.
She was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church where she served as a trustee, the Usher Board, the choir, the kitchen committee and proudly served as chairperson of Friends and Family Day.
Ruthie was recognized in December 2021 for being the longest-serving member of the Philadelphia branch conference of the Lottie Skeeter Missionary Society of Bethel AME Women's Missionary Society (WMS).
For many years, Ruthie served at the Emmor G. Williams VFW post #2404 as a lifetime member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She also was a past State Representative at the Elks Lodge in Coatesville (Mt. Vernon Lodge #1604). She could be seen during the primary and general elections at the South Coatesville Borough's voter's polls serving as a registrar.
Ruthie enjoyed many things in life among them, BINGO... and boy did she love to win! She enjoyed crocheting hats, scarves, blankets, and other items for the family and friends. Puzzles were her thing; she wouldn't touch a puzzle unless it was at least 1000 pieces. She completed countless books of suduko while watching soap operas, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Of all the things Ruth enjoyed, she enjoyed being called Mommy and Mum-Mum the most. She found great joy in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandchild.
Her great legacy will be forever cherished by her children, Mark Evans of Philadelphia, PA, Georgette Evans of Pittsburgh, PA, Walter Teel, Sr. (Dellinah) of Coatesville, PA; brother, Reginald Evans of Elizabethtown, PA; sisters, Rosemary "Pansy" Wilson, Shirley Gray and Marcia Evans all of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren: Lakisha Evans, Di'Shon Evans, Christopher Evans, Keyetta Hill all of Pittsburgh, PA, Jabree Evans of Chester, PA, Jamir Evans, Tiffany Evans both of Coatesville, PA, Brettnay Evans of Delaware, Walter Teel, Jr. of Jacksonville, NC, Kayshae Evans, Randall Evans both of Philadelphia, PA, Tatiana Evans of Virginia, and Flamintay Gascott-Evans of Pittsburgh, PA.
She also leaves many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; long-time devoted friend and companion, Willie Ray Williams; special friends, Robin Rudolph, Estelle "Tiny" Vaughn, Ann Bond; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda Evans; granddaughter, Bridget Evans; sisters, Dorothy May Woods-Boyer, Candyce Evans; brothers, Sylvester Woods, and Jonathan Evans.
