Rudolph Edgar Mayo Jr., “Rudy”, 71, of Coatesville, PA, passed away, Sunday, November 11, 2018 surrounded by his family at his sister’s home in Coatesville.

Born in Coatesville, September 16, 1947, Rudy was the second of six children of the late Rudolph E. Mayo Sr. and Vera Jackson Mayo.

Rudy received his early education from the Coatesville Area School District. He graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1965. He was a College Prep Honor Graduate and a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school he attended, Lincoln University, in Lincoln University, PA.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in English, graduating in 1969.

He continued his post graduate activities at Boston University in Boston, MA. He was a proud brother of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., since 1967.

Rudy lived in New York City, NY from 1970 to 1973, working as a telephone service representative for the New York Telephone Company. He returned to Coatesville in 1973.

He worked for Lukens Steel Company from 1973 to 1987, first as a Standards Checker in the Rolling and Finishing Mills and later Payroll Clerk.

Rudy worked for National Liberty Insurance Company (later named Providian and finally Aegon) in Frazer, PA, from 1988-2000. He started as a part-time telephone sales representative and after numerous promotions, finished as a Supervisor managing a telephone call center.

He was the Director of the Coatesville Soup Kitchen. CSK was founded over 20 years ago by his late aunt, Linda Jackson Wilson. CSK’s mission statement is “to feed the men, women and children of our community with peace, harmony, love, diversity, and innovation”. CSK operates in the R.L. Davis Fellowship Hall under the auspices of The Historic Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church in Coatesville, PA.

For the past eight years Rudy attended a three-day retreat several times a year in Sea Isle City, called Siloam. He assisted with setting up rooms, cooking, cleaning and seeing that things were beautifully and caringly completed. Biblically, Siloam is a healing pool for ones considered to be outcast.

He was committed to his work with Siloam, CSK, his family, and to his community in general.

Rudy was preceded in death by one sister Joan Mayo who passed away in 1984.

He leaves three sisters, Valerie Ann Mayo, Jane Mayo Johnson (Alray), and Valerie E. Wilson (David); one brother, Steven Lee Mayo.

Rudy also leaves to cherish fond memories four nephews: Steven L. Mayo (Morgan), Scott J. Mayo, Ted Bookman and Tyrone Boggs Jr.; four nieces: Simone Mayo-Rolle (Rob), Carletta Cannon Williams (Rodney), Kerri Wilson, Tanya Wilson; aunts, Virginia Taggart, Florence Edmunds; an uncle, Joseph Jackson; Godchildren, Jordan ELH Jackson, Lailaa Ortiz; fourteen great nieces and nephews; many cousins and beloved friends.

I have known Rudy since I was an infant. I have watched the friendship between him and my mom for 50 years. He gave her away at her wedding in 1979 and again at the renewal in 1999. I am so grateful that he came to my 50th birthday celebration last December. Rudy was kind, funny, and fun to be with. He was a blessing to my Mom!!

Rest now, sweet Prince.
Always,
Lee Kimball Outlaw Barmore (Kim)

RUDY was a quiet, humble and loving BROTHER to me! He was a servant-heart and always represented his family, Lord and neighbors with highest integrity! Rudy spent himself for our labors in Coatesville and beyond .... He was happiest when he was 'giving' and even in recent days his personal embrace, love and kindness deeply touched my own life. I will miss him and look forward to seeing him, again! All because of our Savior, Jesus!
--Barbara Rucker Wright

Rudy was a special man who stood for love to all.  You will truly be missed by so many of your brothers and sisters who you have touched their lives. I know you are happy in heaven, but we are sad to not see that smile of yours.
Love always,
--Sarina DiBianca

You are truly missed.  During our last conversation you spoke of wishing you could travel one last time to a beach and feel the sand under your feet while looking at the ocean.  That thought will forever be in my heart every time I travel to the beach.  You were so close to my brother, mother and family, you were family.  I pray your kind and loving spirit gets to feel the sand under your feet.  Love and missing you.
--Tina Oberry

Farewell Rudy. You will be woefully missed.
