Richard Griffin Obituary

Richard Melvin Griffin, 60, of West Chester, PA passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  He was born on August 5, 1963, in Jennersville, PA to the late Grace Mae Wilson Griffin Watters and Herbert Watters.  Richie grew up in Lincoln University, PA, and graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1982.  While in high school he played football. 

Richie attended Hosana AUMP Church in Lincoln University and sang in the junior choir.  He enjoyed listening to music and his favorite singer was Janet Jackson.  He also watched movies and sports, especially football.  Richie worked at Handicrafters and Dollar Tree until he became sick.

Richie is survived by his sisters:  Lyanne Griffin of Vorhees, NJ, and Alice Griffin Tackett (William) of Oxford, PA; sister-in-law, Margaret Hardy Griffin of Lancaster, PA; nephews, Kevin Griffin (Nicole) of Coatesville, PA and Ryan Tackett (Juan) of Oxford, PA; nieces, Lisa Griffin of Lancaster, PA, Yvonne Griffin of Lancaster, PA, and Cristina Tackett of Nunam Iqua, AK, six grandnieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald “Pops” Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI).

A memorial will be held at a later date.
