Rheba Davis Ward Obituary

Rheba C. Davis Ward was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

Born in Toccoa, GA, she was the daughter of the late Elder William Charlie Davis and Everow Brown Davis. After graduating from high school, she moved to New York before she resided in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Rheba met and married Chester L. Ward, a US Army Veteran, after he returned from serving in World War II. Rheba fondly referred to him by saying, "He was a good man." Together they shared sixty-four years of marriage until he passed away in 2016.

Rheba was employed as a Dietetic Supervisor at the Coatesville VA Hospital for many years until she retired. She was known to be a hard worker all of her life.

Most of all Rheba was very hospitable, but she also enjoyed dinners from Linda, Monique and Nora Bush and Evelynn Carey's homemade applesauce. She looked forward to spending time with her fiancé Melvin Thompson, Sr. She also enjoyed visits with Tim Johnson and Mark Singh (neighbors); She enjoyed telephone conversations with Mrs. Polly and Lorraine Ward, caring for children, feeding people and making them laugh.

She also enjoyed watching football and comedy shows. "I Love Raymond" and "Mama's Family" were some of her favorites.

Rheba was a centenarian,101 years old. She was full of history and gave talks and shared the family history as well.

Rheba loved the gospel and her faith was strong. Rheba was a member of the First Apostle FBH Church in Coatesville for many years until she could no longer attend. She then began watching the church services on television and listening and reading devotionals and the word of God with her niece Cassie.

She leaves cherished memories to her granddaughter, April D. Phillips; Melvin Thompson, Jr., sister-in-law, Montana Davis of Winston Salem, North Carolina and sister-in-law, Lorraine Ward of Coatesville; bonus grandchildren: Shamaer Styer, Destiny Young, Shanina and Ray Thompson, Dennis Jacks, Georgette Petterson who was like-a-daughter and a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Priscilla “Pasty” Phillips; bonus grandson, Dom Jennings; five sisters: Christine Reddick and Beatrice Davis, Letha Davis, Gertrude Jackson, Vanilla Ridgeway; seven brothers; Paul Davis, Rev. William Dennis Davis, William Charlie Davis, Charlie Davis, Troy Davis, Howard Davis and Lester J. Davis.
