Raymond C. Simpkins, of Stowe, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday evening February 6, 2021, at his residence.
Born February 16, 1940 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Sarah (Berman) Simpkins Lindemuth and Raymond Adele Simpkins.
Growing up he enjoyed spending time with his brothers and cousins playing stick ball and selling newspapers on the street corner in center city Philadelphia at 9 years old.
Raymond attended South Philadelphia High School where he excelled in Track and Field, making appearances in the Penn relays medaling in the quarter mile run. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving for 3 years as an Infantryman (1958-1961).
He was employed as a foreman for over twenty years at Brandywine Insulation. After retiring, he worked as a security guard for eight years at the Montgomery County Community College of Pottstown, where he enjoyed observing the new generation glued to their “gadgets” aka cell phones, that he never saw the need to have. He also enjoyed collecting the change that the students left in vending machines at the end of the day to put in his coin pouch.
Raymond enjoyed spending time at the Jersey shore, where he owned and managed summer rental properties in North Wildwood, NJ. He also loved the outdoors, reading his paper, coaching baseball with his sons, and, running in marathon’s, was his favorite hobbies. He was best known for persistently offering visitors food and coffee even if they did not want anything when they came to visit.
His family will remember him as being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend.
In addition to his loving wife Angela, Raymond will leave precious memories to three sons: Samuel J. Simpkins (Michele) and Joshua M. Simpkins (Amy) both of NJ, and Christian Lee Simpkins of PA, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy; two stepsons, Scott Harris and Larry Williams both of PA; one sister, Isabel J. Teplitz (Lorin) of PA; one brother, Frederick H. Simpkins of NJ; sister in-law, JoAnn Simpkins of NJ.
Raymond is also survived by many grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan K. Simpkins, sister in-law Sue Simpkins, and stepfather, Paul Lindemuth.
The Simpkins family is hosting a Memorial Service in memory of Raymond at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 15, 2021, at New Life Assembly of God Church, 902 N. Evans Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.
