Nell Jackson Obituary

Just the other day, Nell Jackson, 75, of Coatesville, PA, slipped away at her home on Tuesday evening, June 1, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Nell was born in Cheraw, South Carolina, on March 12, 1946, to the late Frances (Jones) Buchanan and Bozie Buchanan.

She was the wife of the late Alfred Jackson, Sr. with whom she shared 60 years of marriage until his passing.

Though Nell was only afforded an eighth-grade education, she taught herself how to read and earned her P.H.D., in the cotton fields of Cheraw South Carolina through prayer, hope and determination. She taught her family to "Never say never, you can do anything you want to do", and "Don't lie, always tell the truth. Telling the truth is the best thing you can do, even if it hurts someone."

Nell worked as a professional health care provider for over 40 years and was devoted to her family.

Nell was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Worship Center where she served on the Dorcas Missionary Society.  She enjoyed listening to gospel music.  Two of her favorite songs were, "Take Me to the King" and "Amazing Grace".  She loved watching old western movies. She knew the script lines to many shows and would often quote them as she watched her favorite shows.

Nell was a fantastic cook.  She loved baking bread pudding, banana pudding and apple crisp. She could cook up some good ole soul food such as fried chicken, cornbread, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and macaroni and cheese.  Her family will surely miss her down-home cooking.

Nell leaves many dear memories to her three children; sons: Alfred Jackson and Marvin Jackson; daughter, Stacey Jackson; eleven grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan, Easha, Rikkiya, Sha’ire, Moise, Angel, Kayla, Ridge, Jada and Minaja; five sisters: Amanda Buchanan Winkey, Sandra Buchanan Short, Dorothy Buchanan, Debra Buchanan and Olivia Buchanan; two brothers, Charles Buchanan and Thomas Buchanan; two sister-cousins, Brenda Johnson, and Jeannette Tate; aunt, Bernice Jones; uncle, Ernest Jones, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Alfred Jackson, Sr., Nell was preceded in death by three brothers: Aaron Buchanan, Raymond Buchanan, and Calvin Buchanan; one sister, Lottie Mae Buchanan Hoggard, and stepfather, Wallace Burns.

Though Nell is gone she leaves a legacy and memories that will not be forgotten. We will treasure her memory in our hearts.
