Monica E. Huggins

Monica Evette Huggins, of Thorndale, PA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at her residence. She was 52 years old.

Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Otto Huggins, Sr. and Elizabeth Harris Huggins. She was affectionately known as "Monie" or "Lil Lizzie" by her friends and family.

Monica graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High School (CASH) in 1989 and attended Gordon Phillips Beauty School of Philadelphia. She went to Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences. She was a nurse for 18 years, most recently working as an LPN at the VA Hospital.

She was a lively individual who enjoyed a wide range of activities, including playing cards and board games like Uno. She loved to travel, was a self-proclaimed shop-a-holic, and had a passion for cooking and baking, particularly cherry cheesecakes and cinnamon rolls.

Monica's taste for music was a wide variety, but mostly she enjoyed listening to R&B, rap, and gospel music, with artists like Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent being among her favorites.

Monica's memory will be cherished by her sons, Daniel K. Huggins, and Amir Carter, both of Thorndale; brothers, Johnnie O. Huggins Jr. (Sara) of Thorndale, Kenny L. Huggins, Sr. (Monica) of Coatesville; sisters, Marie Huggins of Thorndale, Ashley Huggins of Philadelphia; aunts and uncles: Patricia Teel (Frank), Brenda Runner, Emmett Harris, Jr., Raymond Harris (Itsy), Cleveland Huggins (Dorothy) of North Carolina and Benny Huggins (Barbara) of Lancaster; great aunt, Margaret Grove; granddaughter, Lilah Elizabeth Carter; god-daughter Teshia James, sister cousins: Dorinda Harris, Clara Warner, and Dionne Holmes; close friends: Trina Parker, Tara James, Tanya Tribue, Carmela Hamilton, and Chanelle Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

In addition to her parents Johnnie O Huggins, Sr., and Elizabeth Huggins, she was preceded in death by her son's father, Daniel Carter.

Monica's presence will be deeply missed. Though she is gone, she will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church, 825 E. Chestnut Street, Coatesville,  PA with a viewing beginning at 8:30 until the service time.

Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester, PA.
