Maurice James Foster, 65, of Coatesville, PA, passed away at his home on November 14, 2019 after a long illness.
Born in Washington DC, Maurice was the son of the late James Foster and Bernice (Yates) Foster. He was the husband of Cheral E. (Smith) Foster with whom he shared 23 years of marriage.
Maurice attended Cordaza Education Campus, formerly Cordaza Senior High School and Central High School combined in Washington D.C. The same school attended by Marvin Gaye.
Upon graduating from high school, Maurice entered the U.S. Marine Corp during the Viet Nam Conflict era and was honorably discharged in 1973.
He served during the Viet Nam conflict where he was a rifle expert. He also did a short stint in the United States Army.
Maurice was a people person. He loved making everyone around him laugh. He enjoyed traveling and dancing. He was a boxer and learned the art of Tai Chi. He also liked to play chess and pool. Maurice was a sharp dresser and he loved watching movies and eating all kinds of food.
Maurice worked at various Government jobs while in Washington D.C., as well as the VA Medical Center in Coatesville in Environmental Management Services (EMS) and was then transferred to the Paint Shop where he worked until his death.
In addition to his wife Cheral, he leaves to cherish his memory three stepchildren, Jamel Smith, Akeem Smith, Salih Munday; and six grandchildren. He will also be missed by his caregiver and best friend “Buster”, Elder Ernest L. McMullen, Jr.
He was predeceased in death by his parents and two brothers, George Foster and Allen Foster.
Maurice's presence will be greatly missed. We will cherish his memory in our hearts. Semper Fi.
Services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Coatesville VA All Saints Chapel, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held beginning at 11 AM.
Interment with full Military Honors will be held at 10 AM, Monday, December 9, 2019 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown PA.
