Mary Coleman Obituary

Mary Turner Coleman, 94, of Coatesville, PA, was called home from labor to reward by His Angel of Mercy on Friday, January 19, 2024, at St. Martha Center in Downingtown.

Born in Penns Grove, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert Artiss, Virginia Mary Turner James and York James.

Mary worked at the Coatesville VA Medical Center for 18 years then as a private duty nurse for 7 years.

She was a member of New Life in Christ Fellowship (formerly Union Baptist) where she was a member for a very long time.  She served in the nursery and as an usher.

Her hobbies included shopping, especially jewelry shopping on QVC and all-day clothes shopping trips with her daughters.  She enjoyed eating out with old friends.  She also enjoyed watching Lifetime TV movies, Westerns, and football games on Sunday as well as playing Bingo and Poker-Keeno (Pokeno), reading newspapers for grocery sales and the comic section.  
Most of all she loved the Lord.

She is survived by one son, Evan Turner (Cynthia) of Newark, DE.; six daughters, Mary Lewis, Geneva Boyer, Joette Martinez (José), Marvine Depte (Corinthian) all of Coatesville, Giselle S. Turner of Parkville, MD, Laverne Martin (Kenneth) of Dale City, VA; sister: Barbara Jean London;  sister in law Kathleen Lamptey; 27 grandchildren; and over 100 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters,  Burdette White (husband Leonard) Regina Washington (husband Mitchell) and Burdena Turner, and son in law Albert Lewis; her twin sister, Edna Turner (who was deceased as a child), Ethel Trowery, Martha Marshall (James “Tex”); brother, Elvin Harold James; brother in law, William London; grandson, Jose Antonio Martinez, Jr., and several great-grand and great great-grandchildren as well as close friends, Willa Williams and Vivian Perry.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her extended family, church family, and the many lives she touched.

Homegoing Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at  New Life In Christ Fellowship, 1 South Fifth Avenue, Coatesville. A viewing will be held at 8:30 AM until the service time.

Interment will be held on in New Evergreen Cemetery in Coatesville.
