Marlene Powell Cannon Ashe Obituary

Marlene Powell-Cannon-Ashe, 57, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, formerly of Coatesville, passed away, Friday, August 28, 2020, in North Carolina.

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Collins Smith Powell her biological mother, and Leon Michael Powell. Marlene attended Coatesville Area Public Schools. She was a graduate of CDC in Coatesville.

Marlene was a beloved member of the Powell family. She loved children. Over the years, she took care of all of her nieces and nephews. She would take them for walks and take them to the park.

Marlene kept an immaculately clean house. She loved to clean. You could smell the bleach when you walked into her house.

Marlene had a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh, and dance to her favorite R & B songs.  She enjoyed songs by Teddy Pendergrass and Whitney Houston, and she also loved gospel artist Detrick Hadden. Marlene loved to cook and loved to eat. She was the only one who could correctly make cream-of-wheat for her daughter Mildred.

In addition to her husband, James Ashe, Marlene is survived by her stepmother, Martha Ann Powell who raised her since age 10; daughter, Mildred Ann Powell of Coatesville, and Mildred’s father, James Cannon; sisters: Lavoris Rooks of Coatesville, Rae Cox (husband Delmar) of North Carolina, Trina Putney (husband Doug) of North Carolina, Marcia Griffy of Coatesville; brothers, Eric Powell of Coatesville, Gregory Powell of Philadelphia, and Leon Powell of Pottstown; grandchildren: Jaydan Powell Williams, Aviya Powell Turner, Carter Turner, Carhii Turner; uncle, Sabin Suber, a special friend Jeannette Hubbard, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
