Maggie Lamar Pennington, 75, of Coatesville, PA passed away suddenly on September 6, 2023, after struggling with several ongoing health concerns.
Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gullie Bruce, Sr. and Ella Mae Bruce. She was the wife of William Park Bingham Pennington with whom she shared over 30 years of marriage.
Maggie was a 1966 graduate of S. Horace Scott Senior High School. She was a homemaker and had 13 children, including 4 biological children, 3 stepchildren, 3 adopted children, and 3 nieces whom she raised as daughters.
Maggie liked to decorate for the holidays and collect Asian art. She enjoyed riding along in the car, cooking, crocheting, and solving crossword puzzles. She also loved to dance and listen to gospel music.
She also loved to go thrift shopping and on vacation with her kids. She was a lover of animals and going to the Zoo was her favorite thing to do.
Maggie was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity. She was full of knowledge about the Lord, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others so much that she created a “Keepinitreal Auntmaggieswords” Facebook page.
Maggie will be remembered as a sweet and kind person, who loved to take care of kids.
She leaves a rich legacy as a person of extraordinary commitment and care, who selflessly opened her heart and home to so many people in need, including countless children who she fostered, raised and loved.
She is survived by children: Terrence Bruce Meeks, Terince Bruce Meeks, Troy Bruce Meeks, Traci Bruce Morris (Lisa), Se-lin Dixon all of Coatesville, Ayla Dixon of Lancaster, Ella Mae Koliyah (Eskul) of Coatesville, Anthony J. Pennington of Norristown, Latanya Young (Frank) of Lemoore, California, Aquia Pennington, William Pennington, Jr., Lakisha Pennington, Christopher Leland all of Coatesville, Mike Murray (Alyssa) of Lancaster; brothers, Charles Bruce, Aaron Bruce (Mildred); sisters, Teresa A, Washington-Walker (Fredrick), Ellanore Hurd all of Coatesville, Evelyn Skinner of Birmingham, Alabama; mother-in-law, Lenore Baxter Meeks of Coatesville; sister-in-law, Brenda Meeks of Coatesville and Iris Nicholson of Virginia; 35 grandchildren; God-daughter, Renee Tilghman, special friend, Tonya Jacks; God-nieces, Cajita Foy, Tanisha Jackson; God-sister, Cynthia Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, and her former spouse, Terrence Baxter Meeks, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Bell, Samuel Bruce, Gullie Bruce, Bernard Bruce, John Bruce, Carvel Bruce; sisters, Sadie Mae Dixon, Gwenella Bruce, Carrie Motley, Lillian Brown, and Freddia Bradford.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of the Trinity 323 East Lincoln Hwy, Coatesville, PA. A viewing with be held from 9:00 AM until the service time.
Interment will be held privately.
