Larry Grove Obituary

Larry Eric Grove, father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend was born on April 27, 1969, in Coatesville, PA. Larry was affectionately known to a few as “L. Boogie”. He was one of eight children born to Mattie Hampton-Grove, and the late Minister Moses Grove, Sr. Larry transitioned unexpectedly and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the age of 54.

Larry received his early education in the Coatesville Area School District, graduating with the CASH Class of 1987. He played 9th grade basketball and was a member of the track team. Larry and his twin brother Barry will always be remembered for escorting their beloved mother to their senior prom.

Larry was a believer and accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He was baptized at First Baptist Church of Passtown in Coatesville by the late Rev. Dr. Michael Neely Harris. As a child, he sang with the children’s choir and served as an usher. As a young adult, he was a member of Brewer Memorial Baptist Church in Pomeroy, PA, where he sang on the choir, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Coatesville, and New Life In Christ Fellowship in Coatesville where he sang with the male chorus and was a member of the Safety and Welfare Ministry. Most recently, Larry visited Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coatesville, and First Baptist Church of Wayne in Wayne, PA.

Larry’s employment history included the former Lukens Steel Mill, CTDI, and Olive Garden, until sustaining a work-related disability rendering him unable to work full-time. Larry liked fixing things, working as a handyman, and landscaping.

Larry was a Philadelphia 76ers fan and watched WWE. He loved to cook, grill, sing, and go to cookouts. Larry enjoyed listening to R&B and gospel genres. Some of his favorite artists included Anita Baker and Marvin Gaye. A few of his favorite songs were “Gotta Give It Up” and “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze. His most rewarding responsibility was supporting all types of family events. Larry was the designated family driver transporting his mother and sister wherever they needed to go.

Larry was known to be a comedian, striving to find a way to make you smile or laugh. He was the life of any party and welcomed the opportunity to show you his dance moves. He was a passionate sensitive man who wholeheartedly loved his family and friends. Larry was a caring father and grandfather, often requesting prayers for his beloved children. He would remind his children to “make sure you go and see your grandmom”. Larry ended every conversation by saying “I Love You!”

He was preceded in death by his father, Minister Moses Grove, Sr., brothers, Barry Eric Grove, and Moses Campbell, and great-nephews, Caleb Rashad Grove, Altize M. Grove, Terrell L. Grove, Marvin Talbot Jr., and Laber T. Talbot.

Larry leaves a legacy and cherished memories for his children: Marquise Lamar Warner, Sr., Tre Anthony Grove, Jordan Barry Grove, Jasmine Mattie Grove, Brianna Lynam, and Jose Torres all of Coatesville; mother, Mattie Hampton-Grove of Coatesville; sisters, Shirley Talbot (Marvin) of Oxford, Gloria Watson, and Marlene Grove both of Coatesville; brothers, Moses E. Grove, Jr., Rev. Thomas Edward Grove, Sr. both of Coatesville, and Rev. David Grove (Zhani) of Matawana, New Jersey; one grandson, Marquis Lamar Warner, Jr.; one uncle, Rev. James Grove, Sr. (Mary) of Coatesville; two aunts, Doretha Grove of Parkersburg, and special aunt Margaret Grove of Coatesville; best friends, Wayne Mayo and Stevie Morgan; close cousins, Valerie Mitchell, Ronald Deveaux, Joshua Grove III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Sorrowfully Submitted,
