Joseph “Joe” Mosby Lewis, Sr., 79, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Brandywine Hospital in Caln Township, PA.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late John Lewis and Bessie Bryant Lewis. He was the husband of Suzette B. Twyman.
Joe lived most of his life in South Coatesville and was educated in the Coatesville Area public school system. He graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1963.
Joe served as a private E-2 in the United States Army and the United States National Guard for many years.
During the 1970’s, Joe served on the Borough Council for South Coatesville.
He was known as the “Hardest working Man” in Coatesville and was a stellar employee wherever he worked. Most people knew Joe from working at the A&P Supermarket, and the Super Fresh grocery store where he worked a combined total of 25 years. He also worked at Bishop Shanahan, Brian’s House, and many other jobs before retiring from The Grocery Outlet at the age of 71. He owned businesses such as The Munchie Shop and Lewis’ Takeout; both located on 1st Ave, South Coatesville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Eugene Lewis, Calvin Lewis, George Coleman, Dan Early Lewis, Richard Allen Lewis; sisters: Gladys Dalton, Jessie May Conway, and Lucille Lewis.
Joe is survived by his wife, Suzette B. Twyman of Coatesville, PA; children: Joseph S. Lewis Jr., Victor E. Lewis both of Coatesville, PA, Alicia Ruff (Marcellus) of Plainfield, IL, Tylon Bradley of Albuquerque, NM, JaCaffa Robinson (Joshua) and Jean Luc Twyman both of Coatesville, PA; his only living brother, John B. Lewis, Sr. of Coatesville, PA; 12 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
