Jean Celia Raymond,"Mommie", 73, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA passed away on July 28th 2019 in her home. She went peacefully in her sleep after years of triumphing over illness and two amputations. Jean recently returned from a trip visiting friends. Travel was a passion and she did not allow her condition to hinder it.
Born in West Chester, Jean was the daughter of the late Hampton J. Barnes and Carrie Edna Raymond.
She received her early education from the West Chester School district. Jean graduated from B. Reed Henderson High School in 1965.
Jean was a dedicated daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was often referred to as “Mommie” from childhood friends. Then was known as Aunt Jean and or Mom-Mom to many more.
If you met her you have a story or impression, but most definitely a laugh. If you spoke to her, you were guaranteed to hear endless stories about her daughter, granddaughters, and grandson. She was so proud of their accomplishments. In 2010, Jean was diagnosed with kidney failure, which led to dialysis treatments for the remainder of her life. Jean had amputations in 2013 and 2015. This did not dampen her spirit or love of life! She continued to travel; going to Baltimore, New Orleans, Alabama, Nashville, and Atlanta. She also organized group trips as well.
Jean was also an avid Eagles fanatic. She was able to see them win the first Super Bowl championship and celebrate with Philadelphia in Philadelphia. Jean inspired many by living her life to the fullest despite her circumstances.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Carla Jean Raymond-Hunter and her husband Ralph Hunter of Laurel, MD; brother, Hampton "Beetle" O. Raymond and his wife Ella of West Chester, PA; grandchildren: JeAnna Durnell, Jaycine Durnell and PJ Vital; nieces and nephews: Crystal Clark, Patrice Hance, Ameeki Golson, James Raymond, Ebony Moore, Denise Moore, Sherrell Raymond, Carmen Butcher and Ralph Beckett, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Carrie E. Raymond, father Hampton Barnes, younger sister Patricia Ann Moore and younger brother James A. Raymond.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Central Presbyterian Church, 100 Uwchlan Avenue in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
