Jean Barbara Brewer Hicks

Jean Barbara Hicks, 78, of Coatesville, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, September 12, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Coatesville she was the daughter of the late William H. Brewer and the late Annie Lydia Wilson Conway.  She was the wife of the late John R. Hicks, III, also known as “Dipper”, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.

Jean was educated in the Coatesville Area School district. She attended the historical James Adams School.

Although she was a homemaker, in her early years she worked at the egg auction and at Lasko’s metals.  She loved to be with her loving husband and family. She enjoyed telling jokes, cooking, listening to music, and dancing.  She was a sharp dresser who always had a well-coordinated outfit from head to toe.

Jean attended Enon Missionary Baptist Church in West Grove. She was a very strong woman, a great listener, but also spoke her mind when it was needed.

Jean enjoyed music, dancing, playing card games, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid Philadelphia 76's fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Especially Thursdays; which were special days with their mom. She had a great love for her grandchildren who affectionately called her Mom-Mom.

Jean will be greatly missed by a great legacy including seven children:  Anna Coleman (Henry), Charles W. Brewer (Sondra), Patrice M. Hicks (Aubrey), John R. Hicks, IV, Mildred Hicks Boyer (Joshua), Richard M. Hicks and Tameka L. Brown (Gene) all of Coatesville; two sisters, Delores Dandridge of Philadelphia, Doris Alexander of Delaware and all of Coatesville; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Warner Conway, Jr., sister, Ada Conway Barber; and granddaughter, Lakeisha L. Brewer.

Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road Parkesburg, PA. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM until the service time.

Interment will be held in New Evergreen Cemetery, Coatesville, PA.
