James Miles Obituary

James Lee Miles, 62, of Coatesville, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Wayne Center in Delaware County, PA. He was born on January 4, 1959, at the Historic Clement W. Atkinson Hospital in Coatesville, PA to the late Arlester and Claudia Mae (Blakeney) Miles.

Jimmy was educated in the Coatesville Area School District and was a proud member of the Class of 1977. He was also a member of the 1977 Pennsylvania State Champions and Coatesville Sport’s Hall of Fame Track & Field Team.  Over the years, he was employed at the Veterans Hospital, Help Counseling. Inc., Strawbridge & Clothier and various automotive dealerships. He was primarily a self-employed automotive detailer, stereo installer, and automotive salesperson. He is known for having owned over 900 vehicles and took pride in restoring and selling them to loyal customers. His prized possession was a cranberry colored, 1974 Pontiac GTO.

In the community, he was a Summer League Basketball coach of “Miles High” basketball team. He went to great lengths to secure a championship caliber team. Some of his players became basketball record holders and Hall of Fame members at their respective colleges and universities. In 2017, the Coatesville Basketball Legends Game was named in his honor. His positive demeanor and pleasant personality will always be remembered by his friends. He served as a mentor for many children and adults throughout his years. Jimmy was also a well-respected artist and painter. He was known for painting various murals and the Chief Red Raider at the Scott Field Stadium.

Jimmy was a member of Bell Chapel True Holiness Church of God. He is survived by daughters, Tana Butler of Philadelphia and Charnelle Toaltoan of Lancaster; brothers, Donnie Miles, Arlester Miles, Jr., Fred Miles, Vincent Miles (Bridgette), Kevin Miles (Melissa), Eric Miles, Willie Miles (LaTasha), Donnie Clark, Lawrence Hatfield, Jimmy Jordan and Larry Marsh; sisters, Linda Miles and Gloria Miles. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Hadassah Johnson-Butler, Destiney Cropper-Butler, Serenity Butler, Aryana Butler and brother-in-law, Kevin J. Pennington and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, god-children and friends.     

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Myers and his sister, Claudette Miles Pennington. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Homegoing Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, July 12, 2021, at Bell Chapel True Holiness Church of God, 132 Modena Road, South, Coatesville, Pennsylvania 19320.  A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

Interment will be held at Church of Christ Cemetery, Ercildoun, PA.
