James Edward “Jimmy” Dodson, 85, of West Chester, PA passed away at home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, after a brief illness.

Born in Malvern, PA, he was the son of the late George E. Dodson, Sr. and Margaret E. Valentine Dodson.

James was a 1957 graduate of Conestoga High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and then went into the Army National Guard. He valiantly served and was honorably discharged on June 23, 1964.

James married Elsie Loretta Sharp on September 2, 1961. Together they shared 62 years of marriage.

He was previously employed by Hires Sales, Schramm Commercial & Industrial Supplier, and later became the Environmental Supervisor at Video Pipe Services, Inc. until he retired in 2001. He then worked for Human Services Inc. as a Residential Counselor for 13 years.

James enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching westerns, working on his cars, and working in the yard. James was an avid golfer, he enjoyed golfing with his buddies and won several trophies. He was also a big Steelers Fan. James was the co-founder and past President of the Valentine Family Reunion Association.

He leaves cherished memories to his wife, Elsie L. Dodson, West Chester; daughters, Cheryl Dodson Caldwell (James Jr.) of Escondido, CA, Cynthia D. Dodson (Loren Bowmen) of Coatesville, PA; Goddaughter, Mary I. Ingram (Mike) Burlington, NJ; brother: Paul A. Dodson (Ressie) Berwyn, PA; sister, Frances Dodson Reason Malvern, PA; grandchildren: Kevin M. Dodson, Reno, NV, Charles M. Sutton, Jr. (Jessica) of West Chester, PA, Sydney C. Norton-Dodson of Phoenix, AZ, Loren Bowman-Lomax, Jal-Farris Bowman-Lomax (Audrey), Tyler Bowman and Jordan Bowman; great-grandchildren: Carter Sutton, Damien Sutton, Arabella Sutton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark E. Francis; brothers, Lewis "Peppy" Williams, Jr., George Dodson, Jr., John Dodson; sister, Lena Bowen, Margaret Shepherd, and Ada Holmes.

Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 South Valley Road, Paoli, Pennsylvania. A viewing will be held begining at 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Interment with Military Honors will be held in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, Pennsylvania.
