James Cody, Sr. Obituary

James Cody, Sr., 81, of Coatesville, PA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Bessie McDonald and Manrick S. Cody, Sr. He was one of seven siblings and was affectionately known as “Jimmy” by his family and friends.  He was raised on Summit Avenue in Paoli, PA and attended Conestoga High School.

After 30 years of service, Jimmy retired as a Print Operator from Deluxe Check Printers.  After retirement, he continued to work and was employed at Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU).  During his time with CCIU, he drove the student van and transported young mothers and their children to school and appointments. While driving the mothers, Jimmy would always engage the young ladies with meaningful conversations.  The conversations would consist of him offering support, advice, and encouraging words that would assist them in making decisions that would positively effect their lives. After 15 years of service, he retired from CCIU.

Jimmy was the beloved husband of Helen Alston Cody with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. From this union, they were blessed with three children: James, Jr., Janine, and Jennifer.

Jimmy was a member of the Lily of the Valley #59 Masonic Lodge of Coatesville where he served as past Worshipful Master.

Jimmy loved to drive his RV to many destinations across the United States. He enjoyed watching action movies, sports such as the Philadelphia Eagles and Sixers, listening to gospel music, and most of all spending time with his family.  He loved hosting family gatherings and events at his home while utilizing his swimming pool for fun water activities for all ages.  He was an amazing grandfather that loved his grandchildren and was eager to support them in all of their extracurricular activities and accomplishments.

Jimmy was saved and loved the Lord.  It was not unusual to see him praising God at home in the same manner he so often did at any church service.  Prior to his prolonged illness, he was a faithful member at New Life in Christ Fellowship Church located in Coatesville, PA.

He leaves cherished memories to his wife, Helen Cody; son, James Cody, Jr. of Chester, PA; daughters, Janine R. Marshall (Jeffrey) of Coatesville, PA; Jennifer Meadows (Shayne) of Ronks, PA; sister, Brenda Holland (Michael) of Norristown, PA; brothers, Manrick Cody, Jr. (Ella Mae) of Coatesville, PA; Ronald Cody, Sr. (Juanita) of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Henry Smith of Norristown, PA; sister-in-law, Sophie Cody of Norristown, PA; 6 grandchildren: Jameel Cody, Jeffrey Marshall, Jeremiah Marshall, Genesis Meadows, Jayda Marshall, and Xavier Meadows; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean "Penny" Smith, and Helen Johnson; one brother, Robert Cody; and one daughter-in-law, Terry Cody.
