Ivery Jenkins Obituary

Ivery Louise Jenkins, 89, passed away peacefully, on Monday, February 21, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Pocopson Home, West Chester, PA.  Born in West Grove, PA, Ivery was the daughter of the late Paul Brison and Grace Morrison Brison.  She was the wife of the late James William Jenkins, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage.

Ivery was steadfast in her faith and was always there to help those in need and to support initiatives to improve health and the well-being of the community.

Ivery’s purpose in living was truley, unselfish devotion in praying for and helping others. She enjoyed reaching out to those she loved with phone calls, greeting cards, and notes of hope. How she lived her life was her testimony. Her kind words, generosity, and daily phone calls to check in on friends and family will be so missed.  Her favorite saying was, “You don’t need a reason to help others, and when you do God is answering that person’s prayers through you.”

Ivery was a graduate of Avon Grove High School Class of 1951.  She worked several years in domestic service and was an intricate family member in raising the children of the families she served.  She so enjoyed helping others and serving as the sounding board and mediator for family discussions. Ivery’s opinion was always given, welcomed and respected. She enjoyed volunteering at the Kennett Senior Center.

Ivery was a steadfast and faithful member of the Enon Baptist Church, West Grove, PA. She loved her church family and fellowship and served faithfully as the “Mother of the Church”, senior choir member, member of the Sunday School, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Trustee Board, and Missionary Auxiliary.

Ivery was affectionately known as the blue-eyed hawk, the neighborhood watchdog, as there was nothing she missed seeing or hearing as a very early morning riser. Ivery’s passion was sharing stories of growing up on the family farm with her siblings. Most of all, she so loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Ivery was preceded in death by her husband James William Jenkins; sisters: Agnes Brison, Kathleen Brown, Sylvia Reeves, and Bernice Jenkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Jenkins Walls (Steven) of Avondale, PA; her son, Senior Master Sergeant Andrew Jenkins (Marissa) of Waldorf, MD; her brother, Sergeant Major James H. Brison RET. of Willingboro, NJ; her grandchildren, Matthew W. Jones (Kristen) and Danielle K. Jones (James); five great-grandchildren: Isaac, Aislynn, Xavier, Zaire, Liam and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, grandchildren and friends.

You are invited to visit with her family and friends on Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, February 25, 2022, at the Enon Baptist Church, 297 Willow St, West Grove, PA.  Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.   Masks are required during visitation and service.  The family is providing a Zoom Livestream link for this service.
