Howard Preston Evans, Jr., of West Chester, PA, departed this life on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Chester County Hospital, in West Chester. He was 67 years old.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Howard H. Evans, Sr., and Sarah J. (Corsey) Evans. Howard was known as Beaver, or JR by his family and friends.
He was a beloved member of the West Chester Area School District community. He worked as a dedicated groundsman for the district for many years. He was a proud graduate of West Chester High School, class of 1973.
Howard was a true sports fan, with a special place in his heart for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved nothing more than cheering on his favorite teams and discussing their latest games with friends and family.
In his free time, Howard enjoyed playing scratch-off lottery tickets and visiting the casinos. He was always up for a game of chance and loved the thrill of gambling. Howard was also a lover of good food, and his favorite dish was the ribs from Applebee's.
Howard had a passion for music, with a particular love for R&B classics from artists like Sly and the Family Stone, Isley Brothers, and Earth Wind & Fire, to name a few. He had an incredible ear for music and loved discovering new songs and artists to add to his collection.
Howard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues at the West Chester Area School District. He is survived by his sons, George Hopkins and Reggie Gilliam both of Harrisburg; sisters, Carol J. Simpson of West Chester, and Sallie L. Evans of Greensboro, NC; brother, Eddie C. Evans of Downingtown, PA, George H. Evans and Jesse D. Evans, both of West Chester, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 130 West Miner Street, West Chester, Pennsylvania 19382. A viewing with be held from 9 AM until the service time.
Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park in West Chester, PA.
