Faye Alice Johnson Melvin, 87, from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, peacefully returned to the Lord on October 1, 2023, from her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on August 12, 1936, to Albert and Alice Johnson, Faye attended Passtown School and graduated from S. Horace Scott High School. She retired from Penguins, where she worked on the assembly line.
In her leisure, Faye enjoyed gospel music, shopping (especially at Boscov’s), and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite shows included Westerns, Perry Mason, Court TV, Christian movies, the Hallmark Channel, Christmas movies and listening to gospel music. Faye was known for her passion for reminding speeding cars on Church Street to slow down; she proudly acted as the self-appointed “neighborhood watch,” and she enjoyed walking neighborhood kids to and from their bus stops to ensure their safety.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Passtown (HAYTI) for over 70 years and was a former member of the ELKS.
She leaves behind cherished memories to her daughters: Sondra Melvin of Fayetteville, NC, Carmen Melvin-Wilson of Coatesville, PA, and Melinda Melvin-Marshall of Durham, NC; her son, Kenneth Melvin of Coatesville, PA; her sister, Catherine Johnson; her brother, Paul Johnson, both of Coatesville, PA; seven grandchildren: Chamon Melvin, Alicia “Itty” Brown, Tajah Melvin, Princeton Brown, Chalea Melvin, Lee Wilson, Jr., and Siani Marshall; thirteen great-grandchildren: DayJanae Melvin, DayAmani Melvin, Desmond Eggleston, Chamon Melvin, Jr., Xyani King, Xenia King, Zakai Brown, Zalyn Brown, Bella Grove, Logan Pernsley, Priyasi Brown, Princeton Brown, Jr., and Aria Wilson; Godchild, Faye Alicia Curry and a special nephew, Michael Johnson; sister-in-laws: Doshia Walker, Cecelia Ewing, Joyce McLaurin and Callie Melvin all from Fayetteville, NC; best friend, Christine Eggleston-Hyden, and close friends: Ann Woodward, Elva Griffin, Sharon Thompson, and Marcia Rooks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Faye will be reunited with her parents, husband Prince C. Melvin, brothers Donald Johnson, Arthur "Oppie" Curry, John O. Johnson, and sisters Cora Norman and Laura Griffy in heaven.
Faye will be remembered as a kind, loving, God-fearing woman who prioritized her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who cherished time spent with loved ones. Her presence will be deeply missed.
Homegoing services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Passtown, 117 Barber Avenue, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held from 8:00 AM until the time of the service.
Interment will be held in New Evergreen Cemetery in Hayti, Coatesville, PA.
