Elmer Junious Mayes, 68, of Pottstown, PA, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville, PA.
Born in Pottstown, on October 31, 1951, he was one of eleven children born to the late Alice Elizabeth (Harris) Mayes and Junious Elmer Mayes.
He was educated in the Pottstown School District. After high school he worked at Mrs. Smith's Pies in Pottstown ,as a Machine Operator, for over 40 years.
Elmer loved shopping and cooking and was known for his juicy steaks and fried chicken. He enjoyed listening to music, especially the "Oldies". In his earlier days he loved to dance and won many dance contests. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, and enjoyed other sports. But his favorite enjoyment was reading the bible and talking about the Lord. All in all, Elmer was a private person with a kind spirit. He had an infectious smile, and a great sense of humor. He was a people person who was well liked by many.
He leaves precious memories to his; daughter, Danielle Davidheiser; son, Darlington Davidheiser, Sr., both of Pottstown; six sisters: Louise Mayes Williams, Cecelia Mayes, and Judy Mayes, all of Pottstown, Sheila Mayes, of Wilmington, DE, Alice Marie Benton, of Reading, PA, Karen Mayes Smith, of New Castle, DE; three brothers, Larry Mayes, of Las Vegas, NV, Herman Mayes, and David Mayes, both of Pottstown; 10 grandchildren: Michael White, Naszir White, Sa’Vaughn Davidheiser, DeNaya Williams, Darlington Davidheiser, Jr., Matthew Davidheiser, Mayliah Davidheiser, Jordynn Davidheiser and Keeden Davidheiser; 4 great grandchildren, a special cousin-like sister, Sharon Massadin, of Pottstown, and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Darlington Mayes in 1971, and a step-son, Paul Davidheiser.
Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at the Second Baptist Church in Pottstown, PA. There will be a Walk-Thru viewing beginning at 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, the funeral will be held privately and limited to the family only, to allow for proper physical distancing and adherence to the state issued indoor gathering policy and the safety of all.
The service will be a live-streamed recorded for those who are unable to attend.
Interment will be in Second Baptist Cemetery, Douglassville, PA.
