Elaine Richmond Obituary

Elaine Helen Hammond Richmond, 82, of Coatesville was born in the Pomeroy area of southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Elvira Hammond and Sonny Williams.

Elaine attended the Coatesville Area public schools then became employed at the Coatesville Veterans Administration Hospital. For 38 years she worked as a skilled and knowledgeable Drug and Alcohol counselor until she retired.

Elaine continued to use her counseling gifts to serve in the community and surrounding areas. She was a faithful member of the former Union Baptist Church on Gibbons Avenue. She currently was a member of New Life in Christ Fellowship in Coatesville. Elaine served as the ministry leader of the Altar Workers Ministry, and she was the founder of the Abundant Life Counseling Ministry where she received several certifications throughout the years for the ministry. She sang in the choir, was a part of the Women's Prayer Ministry,  and was a Sunday School Teacher now called (C.L.D. Christian Life Development) ministry.

In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed shopping for clothes and shoes. She loved to travel and take vacations on cruises which took her to exotic islands such as Hawaii and Jamaica.

To say she could cook would be an understatement.  Her skills in the kitchen afforded her family to enjoy some of the most delicious pig feet, ribs, roast turkey, and coleslaw ever made. She also loved singing and listening to gospel music. Most of all counseling people was a passion that brought fulfillment to her life.

Elaine was called from labor to reward on the Lord's day, Sunday morning, October 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Yvonne Richmond, Judith Richmond; son, Russell Richmond Sr.; and two brothers, Harold Folks, Jr. and David Folks.

She is also survived by one daughter, Diane Stevens of Coatesville; two sons, Richard Cooper (Karen) of Houston, Texas, Kevin Cooper of Coatesville; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her signature gift of nurturing love and faith will never be forgotten.
