Dr. Kimberly Smith Obituary

Kimberly Francesca Smith, 56, of Richmond, Virginia entered into rest on Sunday, April 18, 2021 in the Henrico Doctors Forrest Hospital, Richmond, Virginia.   She was the daughter of Ruby and Earl Smith of Reading, PA.

Kimberly was born on August 12 1964 in Norristown, PA. She attended K thru 6th grades in the Plymouth Meeting Friends School, Plymouth Meeting, PA. When the family moved to Reading, PA, she attended St. Joseph’s Middle School and graduated from Holy Name High School, now called Berks Catholic High School.

Because of her love for animals, during her high school years she accompanied and assisted a few doctors at the Willow Creek Veterinarians Clinic during their visits to farms.  Kimberly started out wanting to be a veterinarian but switched to people because, she said, the animals could not respond to any probing questions.  She wanted to be friends with everyone and all other living creatures (she would not harm or kill a mouse).

Kim was a graduate of Penn State University (Main Campus), where she also participated in the Students Foreign Exchange Program and member of the Marching Blue Band then onto Meharry Medical College after having worked for the University of Pennsylvania during the three-month interim.  During her internship at Meharry, she worked in the Center for Disease Control then later mostly out of Virginia Medical College.  As a Family Physician, she was licensed to practice in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

She enjoyed nature and doing things outdoors.  She crawled through caves and canyons, white water rafting and kayaking dangerous waters; loved skiing, hiking trails, bungee jumping, rappelling steep mountains and enjoyed camping in the wilds.  At a young age she was fearless in the amusement park; she wanted to ride the most challenging ones.  She knew the calls and nesting practices of many birds; she was interested in the order of nature and history.  Throughout her life she was told "she did not have what it took", but she did it anyway.

On April 18, 2021, she had to give up the fight.  May she be remembered for her personal commitments and professional contributions to help make this a happy and healing world.  May she rest in peace.

Kimberly leaves her parents, Ruby and Earl Smith; a brother, Gunnar A. Smith of Lansdowne, PA; two aunts, Adelia Stanton of Coatesville, PA, Juanita Perry of Los Angeles, CA, two uncles, Archie Perry of Philadelphia, PA, James E. Perry of Glen Mills, PA and a host of other relatives, friends and associates.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday, May 3, 2021 at Rolling Green Memorial Park, 1008 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382.
