Deacon Dorothy Hester Martin Williams, 99, of Malvern, PA peacefully went home to be with Lord, on Tuesday, morning, November 15, 2022, at the Arbour Square , Assistant Living Facility in West Chester, PA.
Born in Snow Hill, Maryland, she was the older of two children, that were born to the late Frank Martin and Helen Purnell Martin. At a young age, along with her family, she moved to Malvern, PA.
“Dolly” as she was affectionately known, was the wife of Lewis “Peppy” Williams, Jr. with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.
She received her early education from the Easttown School District. She graduated from Tredyffrin Easttown High School, Berwyn, PA in 1943.
Dolly worked at Devereaux as a cook for many years. She later worked for a private family, which she later worked as a Switchboard Operator and Receptionist at their UGI’s corporate headquarters, where she retired.
She attended Sunday School at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Malvern, PA and became a member in 1942. She was baptized at the old St. Paul Baptist Church in West Chester, and under the leadership of Rev. Emmanuel M. Campbell, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of Paoli, she became a member in 1946, and served as the church clerk for many years.
Dolly faithfully served with the Ushers, Youth Department and President of the Adult and Jr. Ushers. She served as State Treasurer for the PA State Ushers Association. She was also a member the Senior Choir; treasurer of the Missionaries and appointed as Mother of the church in 2000. With all of her spiritual growth, she was Ordained Deacon to the church in 2003.
She loved cooking, sewing, reading the bible, and baking, and baked many delicious cakes for the church and for anybody that asked. Most of all, she loved the Lord.
With no children of her own, she became “Aunt Dolly” to all the children that were around her.
In addition to her husband, Lewis, she was preceded in death by one sister Dr. Julia Martin.
Dolly leaves to cherish her memory, her adopted niece, Patricia Tunnell; Brother and Sister In-Laws, James E. Dodson (Elsie), Paul A. Dodson (Ressie) and Frances Dodson Reason; nieces and nephews; the family of New Hope Baptist Church of Paoli and friends.
