Derek Anthony Mayo, 37, of Coatesville PA, ascended from this earth on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Pottstown, PA.
Born in Coatesville, on December 5, 1985, he was the son of Adeania (Winkey) Dorsey, and the late Derek Mayo.
He received his education from the Coatesville and Downingtown school districts.
While pursuing his career goals, he was employed at PROSIGNS, located in Downingtown, as a production lead and sign designer.
He was an avid sports fan and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Derek was very athletic and acrobatically inclined. His enthusiasm for life was contagious. He loved music and dance and lived larger than life. Derek was a great father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. His zeal for life took him to many places; Las Vegas being one of his favorites. He loved fly apparel. He was a trendsetter and a go-getter. Derek could never be characterized as a player hater or a fighter.
He was a lover of life, family, children, and friends. Derek was happy-go-lucky and everyone loved him. He was royal in his humble might; he was a Black Knight in shining armor.
Derek leaves cherished memories to his mother, Adeania Winkey Dorsey; sons, Imari Mayo of Coatesville (mother, Faith Bell), Braylen Dior Mayo of Parkesburg (mother, Kelsay Love); daughter, Armani Mayo of Coatesville (mother, Faith Bell); sisters, Jatae' Winkey, and Jade Dorsey both of Coatesville; brothers, Maurice Dorsey of Coatesville, Cameron Mayo (mother, Linda Dutton) of Honeybrook; maternal grandmother, Amanda Buchanan Winkey of Coatesville and a super close friend, Alexander Chesney-Manns. Derek was also blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
In addition to his father, Derek Mayo, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence H. and Peggyanne Mayo; maternal grandfather, Charles Van Pierre Winkey; and an aunt, Alainia Winkey Pulliam.
A viewing will be held from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Second Baptist Worship Center, 857 Lumber Street, Coatesville, PA 19320.
