Cathy Lynn Campbell

Cathy Lynn Campbell, 58, of Coatesville, PA transitioned from this life on May 7, 2023, at Paoli Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born on September 9, 1964, to Lena Mae (Holmes) and William Henry Campbell, Sr., Cathy was the youngest of three and very spoiled. She received her early education from the Coatesville Area School District and was a proud graduate of the class of 1982 from Coatesville Area High School.

She was the wife of Albert G. Bookman. She was the wife of Albert G. Bookman with whom she shared 33 years.

Following high school, Cathy attended cosmetology school and received her CAN license from nursing school.  Cathy was known for working multiple jobs at once and served as an administrative assistant at the Devereux Foundation and for several years with domestic relations. 

Cathy loved working at Ritzo’s Pizza and the Arc in South Coatesville.

Cathy was married to Albert G. Bookman for 33 years and they had a daughter, Algernae Bookman.

Cathy was resilient and known to be warm, kindhearted, quiet, and welcoming, and she treated everyone like her own.

Cathy was independent, strong-willed, and resourceful.  She enjoyed traveling, attending hat shows with her mother, and spending time with her daughter and her best friend since 9th grade, Arlene.

Cathy’s morning hazelnut coffee was a “must-have” with French vanilla creamer.  She loved baking and was exceptional at it.  She was known throughout the city for her signature 7-up cake and believed every good baker cooks with love.  Even in her illness, Cathy loved being in the kitchen, helping her daughter prep as a back seat driver.

Cathy was a member of the Historic Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church where she served as an usher, which was dear to her heart, and made sure her white uniform was always immaculate.  She loved working in the kitchen alongside her mother and serving the Retired Men’s Club of Coatesville.

Cathy loved music and you could always tell her mood by the music she played.  Her favorite artists were Prince and Maxwell.

Cathy was well-loved by her family, the community, her church family, and her neighbors.

Cathy was preceded in death by her mother, Evangelist Lena Mae Campbell; her father Williams H. Campbell, Sr.; her brother, Rev. William H. Campbell Jr. and her grandmother, Johanna Holmes.

She leaves beautiful memories to her husband Albert G. Bookman; daughter, Algernae Bookman; Almetra Bookman, Altre Bookman; sister, Rev. Bernadette J. Campbell of Pottstown; nephews: Joshua Johnson (Shannan) of West Chester, William H. Campbell III (Kristie) of Detroit, Michael Tate and niece, Gabrielle Tate of Coatesville; one uncle, David Holmes, Sr. (Zlena) of Coatesville; one aunt, Hazel Campbell of Culpepper, Virginia; best friend, Arlene Young and several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her presence will be missed, but her memory and legacy of love will live on in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, at the Historic Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church, 825 East Chestnut St., Coatesville, PA, 19320, with a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Interment will be in New Evergreen Cemetery, Coatesville, immediately following the service.
