On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Calvin Kenneth Irons, of Paoli, passed away at Park House Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Royersford, PA. He was 89 years old.
He was born on June 18, 1934, in Bryn Mawr, PA, to Lillian Hopkins.
Calvin received his early education from the Haverford public school system, where he discovered his talent for high jumping. In 1953, Calvin graduated from Haverford High School, and shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his three years of service, Calvin showed great dedication to his country and was honorably discharged.
Upon returning to civilian life, Calvin joined the legendary dance band, Carl Holmes and the Commanders, as their gifted bass guitar player. He continued to play music throughout his life, sharing his talent with all those who had the pleasure of listening to him perform.
Throughout his career in music, Calvin's talent and love for music only grew. In addition to his love for music, Calvin was also a devoted father. He worked as a mechanic for 37 years at Matthews Ford car dealership in Paoli, providing for his family until he retired.
Calvin was a man who enjoyed life and cherished his family. He was a very joyful young man who loved sports, especially track and field. He also was a talented artist who loved to draw and sketch, and his work was admired by many. However, his love for music and raising his children were his greatest passions. His son, Steven Blake Irons, predeceased him in 2021.
Calvin is survived by his children, Juacqin Irons and Tracy Jackson, grandchildren, Chase Irons and Jordyn Irons, as well as cousins, and friends.
Calvin Kenneth Irons will always be remembered for his love of music and art, his dedication to his family, and his service to his country. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
