Blanche O. Smith, 95, of Coatesville, received her wings and transitioned peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville, PA surrounded by her family.
Born in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late David Cruse and Martha Burrell Cruse. She was the wife of late James C. “Smitty” Smith with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.
She was a 1941 graduate of Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA. After graduation, she studied Millinery in Philadelphia. Blanche is known for wearing beautifully decorated hats.
She enjoyed cooking, arts & crafts, ceramics, calligraphy and decorating. She was the co-owner of B & B Decorators.
Before she retired, Blanche worked as a secretary for the Government in Washington, DC, Virginia and Philadelphia. She also worked for Royal Paper Products Company, Signal Corp, the W.C. Atkinson Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Thomas Clayton, MD.
Over the years, Blanche was a member of the Coatesville Business and Professional Women's Club, the Jeudi Club, Coatesville and West Chester Branches of the Zeta Amicae Club, WIBC Local and State Bowling Leagues and the Coatesville Branch of the NAACP. She was also a member of Eureka Chapter #12 Order of Eastern Star and the Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board and the Hospitality Ministry.
Blanche leaves to cherish her memory her son, James T. "Scoogie" Smith and his wife, Louise Lambert Smith, of Coatesville, PA; grandson, Dwayne Aaron Smith and his wife, Dr. Judith Smith, of Stone Mountain, GA; step grandsons, Robert Jackson of Fort Worth, TX and Jarrett Jackson of Coatesville, PA; special niece, Terre L. Smith-Lewis and her husband, Larry Lewis, of Sadsburyville, PA; 5 step great-grandchildren; 5 step great-great-grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore "Teddy" Cruse.
Friends and family are invited to her Homegoing Services which will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 819 Coates Street, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held beginning at 8:00 AM along with tributes from the Order of Eastern Star at 9:00 AM.
She will be laid to rest at New Evergreen Cemetery in Coatesville.
