Bertha Mae Macon, 93, of Coatesville, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Park House Nursing Center in Royersford, PA.
Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Wood and Amanda Vincent Wood. She was the widow of Herbert D. Macon with whom she shared many years of marriage.
Bertha received her early education from the Coatesville area public school system. She graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1946.
Bertha worked at the Coatesville VA Hospital for 25 years as a cook in the dietetic department. She loved flowers, enjoyed gardening, watching Jeopardy, CNN News, and was blessed to live to see the swearing-in of America’s first black president.
Bertha was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bernardtown until her health began to fail.
She will be missed by her daughter, Theresa Macon-Sadler and her son-in-love, Robert Sadler of Sanatoga, PA, Michelle Macon of Coatesville who was like a daughter; four (4) grandchildren: Corey, Darnay, Kyla, and Kyle; great-granddaughter, Gianna Mae who was named after her great-great-grandmother; special nieces, Florence and Amanda, sister-in-law, Kathryn Bailey; special cousin, Laura Folks; special friends James and Elyse Ford and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bertha was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Emma Pittman, Mary Wilson, Lucy Wood, Amanda Hackett, and Jesse Wood.
Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services, 725 Merchant Street, Coatesville, PA 19320, with a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM.
