Benjamin Elliott, Jr. Obituary

Benjamin Joseph Elliott, Jr., 87, of Downingtown, PA, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

Born in Midway, Georgia he was the son of the late Benjamin Joseph Elliott and Jeanette Hendry Elliott.

After graduating from Liberty County High School in Midway, GA, in 1954, Ben relocated to Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, he united with Union Baptist Church in Coatesville, PA. There, he met and married Annie Wright with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born to this union, were two daughters, Terrilyn and Karen.

While raising a family, he was employed as a locomotive engineer and machine operator at Lukens Steel Company for over 40 years.

Ben was a member of New Life in Christ Fellowship, formerly Union Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, leading the usher ministry and crafting delicious meals while leading the hospitality ministry.

Ben had several hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, especially his annual fishing trips with friends. He loved frying up a hot skillet of fish to share with his family and friends. Another hobby he enjoyed was traveling. His traveling excursions extended to 48 states, many Caribbean islands, and every continent except Antarctica, which he was hoping to visit prior to his illness. As an avid sports fan, Ben enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, and football games. Over the years he was a member of Families Together, the Young Married Couples Club, the Lily of the Valley Masonic Lodge # 59, NAACP, and the ICCUA Interdenominational Church Ushers Association.

Ben leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to his beloved wife, Annie of Downingtown; daughters, Terrilyn Elliott Brooks (Frederick) of West Friendship, MD, Karen Elliott Young (Terrence) of Chester Springs, PA; sister, Joycelyn Hawkins (Bobby) of Detroit, MI; brother, Albert (June) of Coatesville; grandchildren, Spencer Brooks, Connor Brooks, and Terrence Young, Jr., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ben is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Walker and brother, Johnnie Stevens.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his extended family, church family, and the many lives he touched.
