Arnett Murray

August 13, 1935 ~ December 29, 2021 (age 86)

In Philadelphia, PA, August 13,1935, Arnett Murray was born. She is predeceased by her parents: Catherine Moragne and James Burton; brothers: Donald and Joseph Greene, sister: Myrtle Cheeseborough, her precious son: Charles H. Murray, and the love of life Charles H. Murray. The Lord called Arnett home on December 29, 2021.

Arnett graduated from South Philly High School in 1953. She was employed as a Nursing Assistant at the Coatesville Veterans Administration Medical Center; she retired after 30 years of service.

Arnett loved her husband Charles Murray (Peanut) dearly!  They were a team and she believed in their dreams.  Not only did they work at the V.A. Medical Center, but they teamed up to make a difference in the lives of people in the community by refurbishing homes for low-income families.

They visited the sick and shut-in, led noon-day prayer for the seniors, with transportation, fresh fruits and vegetables to all.

Arnett & Peanut opened their home on Sundays to provide meals and a family atmosphere to people who were separated from their families. They were committed to sharing God's words. They developed a bible study group at City Gates, Guadenzia House, and V.A. Medical Center.

They made room in their lives to foster children from Children and Youth Services, seniors from Chester County Office of aging, and Northwestern Human Services; all while raising five of their own children.

Mrs. Murray has been a member of Union Baptist / New Life In Christ Fellowship, for over 40 plus years. Before becoming a Deaconess, she sang in the choir.

Arnett loved wearing lavished stiletto heels well into her mid 80’s that complimented her dresses and sharp church hats. She wouldn’t be caught without her red nail polish. Mrs. Murray always cooked a feast, which she made from scratch, she would not dare allow you to leave her home with an empty stomach.

Mrs. Murray leaves to cherish in her memory, one son Edward Murray, three daughters Cheryl Curry, Arnett Lewis, and Monica Smith; three sisters Gertrude Lewis and husband Walter, Diane Morris, Veronica Garris; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
