Andrew E. Holmes, Sr., 82, of Coatesville, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at the Hickory House Nursing Facility in Honey Brook, PA.
One of twelve siblings, Andrew was born September 1, 1937, in Culpeper, Virginia to the late Frances Thompson and Robert Burke Holmes.
Andrew served two years in the US Army until he was honorably discharged in 1956.
Andrew worked as a truck driver for several years but was also an entrepreneur. His well known businesses was owning a grocery store as well as selling watermelons within the the community. Andrew had a great sense of humor. He “always had jokes”.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bernardtown. He enjoyed eating soul-food, watching football, and riding his blue Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a member of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandson, Terrelle, whom he always had with him.
He leaves a legacy of cherished memories to his sons: Andrew E Holmes Jr.(wife Denise) of Coatesville, Bertram E. Holmes of Norristown, Dexter O Holmes (wife Kathryn Holmes) of Piscataway, NJ, his daughters; Marie Jackson of Philadelphia, Sandy Cunningham of Downingtown, brothers, Rev. Stanley Holmes (wife Martha), Ollie Holmes (wife Helen), Daniel Holmes; three sisters, Harriet (husband Theodore) Sally Holmes and Irene Holmes; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Holmes, one granddaughter Shavonne Holmes, siblings George, Randal, Robert Jr., Charles, and Mary Francis.
Graveside Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, 23144 Maddens Tavern Rd, Lignum, VA 22726
Interment will be held privately in Culpeper, Virginia.
