Adele McLennan Obituary

On Friday, May 21, 2021, Adele Butler McLennan, 83, passed away at her home in Coatesville. The daughter of the late Margaret (Fine) Butler and Lee David Butler, Adele was born on March 14, 1938 in Washington, D.C.  She grew up on her family’s farm in Essex County, Virginia and graduated from Madeira School in McLean, Virginia.

In 1958 she married Hugh McLennan with whom she had four children.  Having experienced pain in her life, she was very compassionate to others.  She worked to heal and develop close relationships with her children.  She overcame many personal struggles. She used these experiences to help others and was a source of inspiration and strength to her family and friends.

She enjoyed art, music, movies, politics, civic engagement, and thrift shopping.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.  She hosted an annual family vacation at the seashore for many years.

In 2014 she survived a stroke which caused aphasia.  She showed great determination and resilience when she learned to walk, eat and talk again and continued to enjoy life with her loved ones.  In the last 3 months of her life while her health was failing, she loved being surrounded and cared for by her family.

She leaves cherished memories to her two daughters, Heather Kozikowski (Richard) of Norristown, PA, and Bonnie McLennan, of Coatesville; two sons, Hugh McLennan (Bernadette) of Pequea, PA and John Scott McLennan (Jennifer Krout) of Coatesville, PA; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one sister, Margo Lorig of Paonia, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Butler of Richmond, Virginia, as well as nieces and nephews.  Adele was predeceased by her brother, Lee David Butler Jr.

A celebration of life is planned for June 13, 2021 at 2 PM at Duling Kurtz House and Country Inn, 146 South Whitford Road, Exton, PA.
