Walter Lee Brokenborough, Jr. "Butch", 66, of Lancaster, formerly of Ardmore, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, in Coatesville, PA.
Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was the son of Pinkey Ann (Carter) Brokenborough, and the late Walter Lee Brokenborough, Sr.
He was the father of Andrew M. Weathers (Quiletta) of Lancaster; the grandfather of, Cherish and Chelsea Weathers; and the brother of Rita Walker and Patricia Brokenborough, both of Philadelphia, PA.
Walter attended Penn Valley and Penn Wynne Elementary, Ardmore Junior High, graduating from Lower Merion High School in 1976. He developed a love for sports during high school and became a tremendous asset to his middle school track team. He also excelled in his position of wide receiver on his high school football team.
Walter loved school and even though finances were not readily available. In 1976, Walter enrolled in Lincoln University in Oxford, PA., graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1980.
After graduating from college, Walter was employed as an accountant at High Steel Industries and relocated to Lancaster, PA. Walter dedicated his professional life to his career as a skilled and respected accountant. He also found joy in helping his family and friends during tax season. His professionalism and dedication to his work were admired by colleagues and clients alike.
The happiest time in Walter's life was in 1985, after the birth of his son Andrew. At a young age, Andrew came to live with his Dad until he graduated High School. Walter was a devoted father and displayed unconditional love toward his son.
Beyond his career, Walter was a fervent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, a passion he shared with friends and family during countless game days. His love for football extended to his role as the head coach of the Ardmore Panthers and his son's community football team in Lancaster, PA, where he mentored and inspired young athletes with his wisdom, dedication, and unwavering support. His impact on the community and the young lives he touched will be remembered for years to come. A lover of jazz music, Walter found immense joy in attending the Capital Jazz Fest in Columbia, MD, and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia every year. These annual events were a testament to his love for music and sports, bringing him happiness and cherished memories.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory, Andrew Weathers (Quilletta) of Lancaster, PA; granddaughters, Cherish and Chelsea Weathers of Lancaster PA; mother, Pinkey Brokenborough of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Rita Walker and Patricia Brokenborough both of Philadelphia, PA; aunt, Eugena Skinker of Willingboro, NJ; uncle, H. Theodore Carter of Omaha, NE; nieces, Mary Worthy (Curt) and Alani Brokenborough; two great nieces and two great nephews; one god son, Chesney Walker; a host of cousins and best friends Larry Shippen, Keith Bookert and Kenny Walker.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Household of Faith Deliverance Worship Center, 130 E Athens Ave, Ardmore, PA. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.
