Obituary

A Time to Be Born: Valerie Stewart Breaker, affectionately known as Val, Chubby, and Nana was born to the late Johnson and Ryde White. One of the many distinguished traits that made Valerie unique is that she was born 4 minutes before her fraternal twin sister, Vevelyn. Oh, what an inseparable pair those "White" girls were. They were born together, married together, lived close together, and saw each other through life's triumphs.

A Time to Learn: Val graduated from the first HBCU, Cheyney University, and attended Overbrook High School during her primary years. She gave tennis a brief try but really enjoyed being a majorette at her school.

A Time to Grow: By virtue of being the first-born twin, Valerie was a leader by nature. It's evident that this is where she gained her keen intellect, quick wit, and assertive personality. She was always a force to be reckoned with and was very specific in how she wanted things done. Growing up, they were well cared for and raised with an iron fist by their Daddy; he was super protective of his beloved Twins. Nobody messed with those "White" girls.

A Sister's Love: Val and Vev were fraternal twins and best friends. There are very few times in life when they were apart. They even tried to turn their first-born sons into twins since they were only a month apart. Val loved her sister with an unwavering love and ran every decision by her younger sister.  The running joke is that Vevelyn "kicked" Valerie out of the womb and that's why Val was first. Their relationship was each other's introduction to loyalty and unwavering love.  Their spouses can attest and learned early on that they were literally indivisible.

From Vev: "Sister, I'd move heaven and Earth to have you here with me, life will never be the same. We were so close, your hurt was my hurt, but you were always first.  ½ of my heart is with you, until we meet again, I love you".

A Mother's Love: Everyone knows that Val's greatest accomplishment in life was her one and only child, Chadd; he was her pride and joy. She gladly sacrificed to ensure Chadd attended the best schools and exposed him to a wealth of experiences that would positively shape his very successful future. She was a fierce protector of him. Valerie was overjoyed when Chadd pledged a Fraternity and graduated from Virginia Union University, also an HBCU. Val believed that education was up there with the hierarchy of needs. Chadd inherited his mother's quiet warrior strength and her kind, thoughtful nature.  Through the blessing of her son's marriage, she gained a daughter, Cadetta, of whom she treasured and loved dearly.

A Grandmother's Heart: Cada and Chance were the newfound loves of her life.  She adored her grandbabies and doted on them every weekend and holiday she could.  She enjoyed being Nana and making fun memories with her "kids". Nothing was more important than spending time with her family.

A Time to Love: Valerie met the love of her life, Clifford "Sonny" Breaker while on a date with his best friend, they married in 1970. They've been together for over 55 years and made a beautiful life in the suburbs of Philly. They both decided on small town living and took many trips experiencing the world and new things together. They were each other's best friend and did EVERYTHING together. Their relationship was that of true love as they supported each other through life's journey, good times, and sickness and health, just as the marriage vows read. Their support and devotion to one another never wavered. They will always and forever have a one-of-a-kind love.

A Time to Educate: Val was a tireless educator that loved early childhood education. She taught at Clara Barton Elementary. She focused on at-risk and neurodivergent kids. Val taught 1st grade over twenty years and retired from the Pennsylvania School district with distinction, only to begin volunteering as a community daycare director for disadvantaged kids. Children were just drawn to Val's sweet spirit; she was a true nurturer at heart. The return on investment was seeing her kids come back as adults to personally thank her for caring so much and being a part of their lives. This made Val so proud.

A Time to Serve: Valerie accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Greater St. Matthew's Independent Church in West Philly where she served in many roles.  She was a Stewardess, a Missionary worker, and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Often, you would catch her in the kitchen skimming food off the top when she served on the hospitality committee. Val and Sonny would spend weekends traveling to visit the sick and elderly members to fellowship and provide communion. This is where Val would get all the "tea". She truly had the heart of one of God's best servants.

A Time to Reflect: Valerie always created space and time for others around her. Her love language was showing up and giving to her family and friends. She shared a lifelong friendship (70+ years) with their Girl's Crew: Carol, Pat, Val, and Vev. They were the original Golden Girls. She treasured the fun road trips with the entire Meuse Mob and annual family gatherings where beautiful memories were made. She filled our space with her beautiful infectious smile and that witty over-the-glasses stare that only Val could give. Her Presence will forever live in our hearts.

Val's Triumph: At only 41, Val received a life-threatening diagnosis that would change the course of her life mentally and physically. The once outspoken and feisty superwoman morphed into the quiet witty warrior, we all knew and loved. She embraced the changes and still took care of her home by empowering Sonny and Chadd to become self-reliant. 30 years later, she was embattled with a more progressive diagnosis, but she never gave up the fight, surviving multiple major brain surgeries and extensive rehab.  She was their leader, their inspiration, and the eventual undisputed Champion as she decided when it was time to move on.

A Time to Ascend: Surrounded by those she loved the most, Valerie peacefully transitioned in her home in Nottingham, PA. We have Peace in knowing that she is with the Lord.

A Time to Cherish: Val will be lovingly remembered by: her devoted husband Clifford "Sonny" Breaker, Jr., her favorite and only son, Chadd Leon Breaker, her daughter-in-love, Cadetta, her beautiful grandchildren, Cada and Chance, her twin sister, Vevelyn Webb (Bernard), Sister-in-love, Delores Moody, Aunt, Vivian Lanier, nephews, Jonathan Webb (Lara) and Jeffery Webb (Amber), a niece, godson, Brian Johnson, great nieces and nephews, and a large family of cousins and dear friends.

A Time to Remember: She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnson and Ryde White, and her brother-in-laws, Darryl and Robert.

May the legacy of Valerie's life and the imprint she left on our hearts manifest itself in all of us, for the world was so much sweeter with her in it.
