Steve M. Washington was born July 14, 1960 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was one of eight children born to Linda Goodwin Washington and the late Edward A. Washington, Sr.

Raised in Kennett, Steve attended the Unionville public schools. He later enrolled in the Automotive Training Center (ATC) in Downingtown.

Steve was the husband of Jewel Smith Washington. They have been together for over 30 years.

He was a truck driver for Sunoco Sun Oil Company and the Independence Construction Company.

He was a member of the Bethel AME Church, Downingtown where he sang on the choir.

Steve loved to work on cars and was known to be meticulous about cutting the grass in his yard. He enjoyed drag racing and listening to music. He also enjoyed building model cars and airplanes. He was a member of the Model Aircraft Association in Valley Forge.

Steve departed this life February 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by one brother Michael A. Washington and one sister Deborah E. Washington Massey.

He is survived by his wife Jewel M. Washington; one daughter, Latoya Hallager of Philadelphia; three sons, Stephen Maurice Smith and his wife Kelly, Curtis Wayne Smith and his wife Anna Carmona, and Derek J. Smith all of Coatesville; his mother Linda M. Washington of West Chester; two brothers, Edward Washington, Jr. of West Chester, Anthony Washington of Coatesville; three sisters, Mary Frances "Sissy" Washington of Bensalem, Linda L. Washington of Savannah, Georgia, and Cindy Washington of West Chester; maternal grandmother Mary F. Goodwin of West Chester; 7 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Though we mourn his passing, we will cherish fond memories of him in our hearts.
