IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharyl Kay
Idonia Tweed-James
November 18, 1944 – February 7, 2025
Sharyl Tweed-James, 80, of Downingtown, PA, passed away, on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester.
Born in Bermuda, she was the daughter of the late George and Mildred Lyburd Tweed.
Born on the beautiful island of Bermuda, Sharyl's life was a testament to strength, resilience, and love. Her early years were spent in Bermuda, but as a little girl due to an illness, she lived in Canada. After graduating from St. George's Secondary High School in Bermuda, she decided to go back to Canada and then graduate from Verdan Business College, laying the foundation for a promising career.
In her early twenties, Sharyl made a courageous move to the United States, a decision that would pave the way for her family's future. She was the oldest grandchild among the Tweed children and took great pride in establishing roots for her family in a new country. Sharyl worked diligently as a secretary for Dr. W.C. Atkinson in Coatesville for many years, leaving an indelible mark through her dedication and professionalism. Her career also included roles at Human Services in Downingtown and as a nursing assistant, where she extended her nurturing spirit to those in need.
Sharyl's love for music was profound, with reggae and gospel being her favorite genres. She found joy in dancing and was known for doting on her beloved daughter and grandchildren. They were her world! She loved cartoons because of them and doted on everything they were into.
Sharyl shared stories of her family that carried the rich tapestry of her heritage. Tim, her beloved son-in-law to be, came into the family just as she began to face health challenges, and his presence was a source of support and comfort right up to the very end.
Sharyl was a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Downingtown, back in the day. Her favorite scripture, the 23rd Psalm, was a reflection of her spiritual journey and the peace she found in the Lord. Health kept her away, but once services started on zoom, she was faithful again.
Sharyl is survived by her daughter, Malinda Tweed-Wilson (fiancé, Timothy) of Downingtown; grandson, Samuel E. Wilson, III; granddaughter, Milina D. K. Dixon of Downingtown; step-grandson, Damion Dixon of Coatesville; sisters, Sharry Tweed-Humphrey (Grover, deceased) of Coatesville, Joy C. Astwood of Downingtown; niece, Tina Durham (Nkenge and Nadhira); nephew, Adam Humphrey; godson, Randy Simmons and a host of cousins, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, John George Nathaniel Tweed.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Bethel AME Church, 221 Prospect Avenue, Downingtown, PA. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
