IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Naomi
Bowens
March 23, 1941 – May 31, 2023
Ruth N. Bowens, 82 of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Coatesville to the late Douglas Haskins and Naomi Williams Ferguson. She was the wife of the late Marshall S. Bowens.
Ruth Bowens was a 1959 graduate of Downingtown High School.
During her early years, she worked as a "live- in" nanny for a Jewish family where she took care of their two children as if they were her own. In her later years, she worked at Embreeville State Hospital as an aide for patients with mental disabilities until she retired after 30 years.
Ruth enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing bingo, playing the lottery, and endless telephone conversations. She loved watching her favorite Madea shows, cheering on the Sixers player Joel Embiid, going on ride-a- longs with her son or daughter, and trips to Ocean City Maryland Beach. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family during holiday gatherings and cookouts.
Ruth was a very loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her kindness was immeasurable. She always extended her thoughtfulness and loving heart by helping anyone, with anything, in any way. She most definitely had a true heart full of gold and a sweet soul. Ruth had a sense of humor that would make anyone laugh. Her presence was like light and joy wherever she went.
Ruth leaves cherished memories to her children, Brian Bowens of Coatesville, PA, and Makeda Bowens (Robert Hoover) of Coatesville, PA, and granddaughter, Davejah Nixon of Coatesville, PA 19320; three brothers: Charles "Carey" Ferguson (Kathy) and Douglas Ferguson both of Seattle, WA, and Gerald Ferguson of Downingtown, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Keahia Bowens; three brothers: Ira " Bunky" Ferguson, Robert "Bob" Ferguson, and Francis Ferguson; two sisters, Barbara Lee and Joan Ferguson.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Westwood Fire Hall, 1403 Valley Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. Please note: There will NOT be a viewing.
