Obituary

***This obituary is posted by request from local family members***

Robert Theodore Marshall Sr., age 91, of Orlando, Florida, and formerly of Coatesville, PA, peacefully transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband of more than 50 years to his wife, Carolyn, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he was a man whose life radiated faith, integrity, and generosity.

Born on July 31, 1934, in Coatesville, PA (Hayti), he was the beloved son of the late Philip and Barbara Marshall, and John Henry Barber. He received his early education in the Coatesville Area School District, graduating from Scott High School in 1953, where he was an active member of multiple school activities and sports including Glee Club, Intramural Basketball, and a member of the State Championship Track team and was inducted into the Coatesville Sports Hall of Fame as a member of that team, and was a member of the marching band where he played the drums. Following high school graduation, he attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

He then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army, demonstrating the same discipline and humility that would define the rest of his life. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

A gifted musician, he had a lifelong love for playing the drums. Over the years, he played with several bands and world-renowned musicians such as Grover Washington Jr, George Benson and Lou Rawls. A few of his bands included The Richmen, The Royal Knights, Cliff Nobles and Company, where they recorded the famous song, 'The Horse', which for years was played on the radio as well as by college marching bands across the country, and finally, The Disciples of Soul. Music was a lifelong passion for Rob, and he enjoyed sharing this with others who valued both his rhythm and his joyful spirit. Music was one of his great passions, and he used it to bring happiness to countless people.

Professionally, he was a hardworking and dedicated employee of the Phoenix Steel Company in Claymont, Delaware, where he worked faithfully until his retirement after 30 years of service.

Yet retirement never slowed his heart for service. His God-given calling as a counselor, advisor and mentor in support and advocating for young people led him to decades of work with underprivileged youth. He served tirelessly as a leader at Downingtown Industrial School and St. Gabriel's Hall, both schools in Pennsylvania, as well as Catalyst Christian Academy and Kissimmee Christian Academy schools in Orlando, where he moved to in 1997, pouring wisdom, guidance, and encouragement into the next generation. He continued serving youth until the remarkable age of 86, impacting hundreds of young lives with love, discipline, and hope.

Spiritually, he was a faithful member of House For The Nations (formerly Catalyst Community Church) in Orlando, Florida. He served diligently in the Men's Ministry and loved his church family deeply. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was unwavering, and his life was a testimony of humility, service, and devotion to God and gifts God gave him with his family. He was truly a servant.

He loved all sports, especially basketball, which he played recreationally throughout his younger years. He was also a proud and loyal Philadelphia Eagles fan, cheering for them passionately every season.

Above all, he treasured his family. His guidance, wisdom, and quiet strength were constants in their lives. Many cherished conversations were held during the beloved "garage discussions," where he shared stories, counsel, and encouragement. His peaceful spirit, gentle presence, and steady love will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Barbara Marshall, and John Henry Barber, and sister, Cheryl Anderson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of more than 50 years, Carolyn; his loving children: Robert Marshall Jr. (Eva), Stephanie Reid (Wilbur), Leara Marshall (Brian), and Kim Smith; 10 grandchildren: Rob (Spoony), Kera, Nikia, Christine, Peyton, Jacob (Kaylie), Kayla, Briana, Baileigh, and Chelsey; 13 great-grandchildren (7 boys and 6 girls); 1 great-great-grandson, Syris; his brothers: Larry, Philip, Hubert, Curt; his sister Janet and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and friends who will forever honor his memory.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, love, wisdom and service will live on through every life he touched. We rejoice knowing he is now resting peacefully in the

arms of JESUS.
