Richard Travis Winkey, "Wink", 53, of Coatesville, PA, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Brandywine Hospital in Caln.
A lifelong resident of Coatesville, Wink was born on November 17, 1965. He was the son of the late Richard and Margaret Brodie Hoggard Winkey. He was the beloved husband of Jamia A. Raison Winkey with whom he shared 18 years.
After graduating in 1985 from Coatesville Area Senior High School, Wink attended Temple University in Philadelphia. Over the years, he worked for Devereux, Walmart and Concern-Professional Services for Children Youth and Families.
Wink was a talented sketch artist who enjoyed drawing lifelike works of superheroes. He served in the community coaching basketball in several leagues including the Brandywine YMCA and Coaching Victory.
To say he enjoyed sports is an understatement. He could speak on all the details of various sports history, stats, news, and technique. Wink was a beloved coach. He was funny, talkative and had a nickname for everyone. Most of all he had great knowledge of the Bible. He passionately shared what he knew about the Lord Jesus Christ with everyone.
Wink was a good husband, father and role model. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife Jamia Winkey; his children: Richard T. Winkey, Nala C. Winkey of Downingtown, Noah T. Winkey, Isaiah T. Winkey, Michael T. Winkey and Joshua T. Winkey of Coatesville; brothers: James M. Hoggard (Lillian), William Hoggard and Elmer Hoggard all of Coatesville, Roosevelt Hoggard of New Castle, Delaware, Min. Reuben Hoggard and Rev. Dr. Clinton Hoggard both of Philadelphia; sisters, Maytha (Lonnie) Brown of Coatesville and Marie Smallwood of Philadelphia; mother-in-law, Antionette Raison of Coatesville; Father-in-law, Jeffrey Smith; sister-in-laws: Yvonne Hoggard, De'shana Raison, Kimberly Raison, Stephanie Raison all of Coatesville; uncle, Kenny Winkey of Coatesville; grandparent in-laws, Delores A. Gray, Winona Smith; special friend, Jeff Cooper of Parkesburg other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lottie Souell, Gloria Cotton; brothers, Leroy Hoggard, Sr. and Ronald Hoggard.
Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Second Baptist Worship Center, 857 Lumber Street, Coatesville, with a viewing beginning at 8 AM.
Burial will be in the Church of Christ Cemetery, Ercildoun, PA.
