IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paulette D.
Lewis
October 18, 1953 – August 18, 2022
Paulette D. Lewis, 68, of Coatesville, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Paulette was born on October 18, 1953, in Coatesville, PA, to Alberta Jennings Alston and the late Harvey Lenzie Alston.
Paulette graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High School in 1972, where she was a member of several organizations including the band and the Gospel Movement. She then matriculated to Shippensburg University majoring in accounting.
She grew up attending Second Baptist Church until she married Larry Lewis, Sr., and moved her membership to First Calvary Church of God in Christ in Coatesville, where she remained for almost 50 years. She faithfully served under the leadership of the late Elder James W. Mobley, the late Bishop Clarence A. Lewis, III, and most recently, Elder Roland V. Holmes, Jr. Paulette held many positions in her local church; she served on the Executive Board and the finance committee. She was also an usher, choir member, and on the kitchen committee. Paulette became an evangelist in the COGIC Church over 20 years ago.
Paulette was faithful to the Coatesville District and the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. She was a member of the Jurisdictional Adjutancy Corp and was the former Chairlady of the Jurisdictional Youth Department where she served for over 20 years. She had a heart for young people and was the Commonwealth "Mom" to them all. She had a hug and a smile and genuine love for every one of them.
Paulette was a fierce woman of God. Not a day went by without her reading the Bible and praying; she trusted the Lord wholeheartedly. She made it a point to tell her family and those she encountered about the Lord.
She was a devoted mother to her children, never missing an engagement or sporting event from midget league to coaching. She made many trips to the University of Pittsburgh for gospel choir events and most recently would bring gummy bears to her "sons" on the Reading Raptors Arena football team that her son coaches.
She enjoyed football, writing poetry, and watching movies with her children every Friday evening.
Paulette had a love for pocketbooks, scarves, and pearls. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her little button, Kennedy and her grand-dog, named "Smoke". She loved joking and making people laugh, a trait from her mother who she took care of for many years.
Paulette will be greatly missed by her daughter, Melanesia R. Lewis "Neko"; son, Larry Lewis, Jr. "Pooder"; granddaughter, Kennedy Graham-Lewis; mother, Alberta Alston; brothers, Stanley "Hussey" Alston (Loretta), Harvey L. Alston (June); sister, Baleria Williams (Dan); goddaughter, Erica Culclasure-Mansfield; former, spouse, Larry Lewis, Sr., her beloved grand-dog, "Smoke" and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeremiah Jennings and Gary Alston and maternal grandmother, Pauline Jennings.
