(Hunter) Rivers
April 27, 1946 – July 3, 2024
Pattie M. Rivers, of Coatesville, PA, surrounded by her family, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at her home. She was 78 years old.
Born in Littleton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Taylor and Martha Erma Hunter.
She received her education from McIver High School from which she graduated in 1964. Pattie then moved to Coatesville, PA, where she resided with some of her family members.
Pattie met the love of her life and married her husband, Leroy A. Rivers, on August 3, 1968, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.
Over the years, Pattie was employed with the Coatesville School District as a teacher's aide. She worked at Strawbridge & Clothier in Exton as customer service support, QVC in West Chester as a jewelry receiver, and at A.C. Moore in Downingtown as a customer service specialist.
Pattie joined and was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Worship Center of Coatesville in 1975. She served in various ministries including, Deaconess, Usher Board, Missionary Board, Chairman of the Trustees Board, and the Interdenominational Church Usher Association of Chester County.
During Pattie's illness, she enjoyed watching QVC with her sister, spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and taking care of her husband. Pattie also loved doing gardening and going out to lunch with her friends.
She was predeceased by her great-grandson, Devon Peoples, Jr; mother, Martha Hunter; sisters, Louise Hunter, Dorothy Sellers, Mary Jefferson and Mollie Hunter.
In addition to her husband, Deacon Leroy A. Rivers, she is survived by two daughters, Sheila Smith (husband, Benito) of Coatesville, Sharon Thomas (husband, Earl) of Justin, Texas; sisters, Annie Hunter, Helen Madry, and Minnie Hunter all of Baltimore, Maryland, and Emma Williams of Washington DC; brother-in-law, Willie Rivers; sister-in-law, Diana Martin; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
She is also survived by special friends, Lisa Lister, Eliza Mae Brown, Theodora "Teddi" Mitchell, Deacon Leroy and Olivia Lyons, Deacon Corinthian and Marvina Depte, and her Pastor, Rev. Dr. James L. Smith and First Lady, Beverly Fox Smith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Second Baptist Worship Center, 857 Lumber Street, Coatesville, PA 19320. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. The interment will be in New Evergreen Cemetery, Coatesville.
